Chapter 5
Ava's POV
Everything looked so beautiful. I had been nervous about coming here with him, but everyone made me feel like I was already home.
Was this my home?
He had told me this pack was new, that his Alpha had given it to him after the war. But what war had that been? It was before I came along.
I knew this place was dangerous. I could feel it. But I had to be strong. I had no family here. I was on my own.
I'll be okay.
Just then, a commotion broke out. Three guards hurried toward us. My eyes widened, thinking they were about to throw me out, but it wasn't me they were after. It was Grill.
"Alpha, there are people coming out of the woods," one of the guards said. "They said they've spoken to you before about joining your pack."
He nodded. "Take me to them." Before he walked away, he reached for my hand. Looking over at me with a warm smile, he said,
"I know you want to take things slow, but we are mates. You're my Luna, so we do this together, okay?"
I had no idea what to say. I simply nodded and walked beside him.
We stayed silent until we reached a large clearing. There were so many people. Goodness… What is he going to do? I hope he doesn't turn them away. They need a home.
Grill's POV
Everything had been going well until the guards came rushing over. I nearly punched one of them out of instinct. I was still getting used to people running up to me like this.
"Alpha, there are people in the woods," one of the guards reported. "They say they've spoken to you before about joining a pack."
"Take me to them." I reached for Ava's hand and looked at her.
"I know you want to take things slow, but we are mates. You're my Luna, so we do this together, okay?"
She simply nodded, and together, we followed the guards until we reached the clearing. My eyes swept over the crowd. There were so many of them.
If they wanted to join my pack, I wasn't about to turn them away. Everyone deserved a chance at a home. Then my gaze landed on the one person I never expected to see again. Catherine. And she wasn't alone.
She was holding the hand of a small child. Shit...Here we go.
I knew the boy wasn't mine. It had been far too long for that.
So why was she here?
