Chapter 7
Catherine's POV
I had to threaten these people to make Grill think we all came from a pack. That boy was really my son, but he didn't have to know that. The daughter I talked about? I don't have one.
The rogues were torn apart by a bear that I had injected with poison. It went completely insane before it finally died. They'll find its body far away from here. Now, about this girl... his mate and Luna.
She doesn't even look like she's fit to be a Luna, especially not in a mafia pack. I have to play nice for now, but just wait. When I get her alone, she's going to want to run from this place so fast she'll never look back.
"Mommy, what's going on? Why is everyone so upset? I thought you fixed it," my son mindlinked me.
He's only five years old, but he's already a strong little boy.
"Don't worry, honey. Everything is okay. They'll find the body soon. Until then, we have to play along so I can become the Luna and get that girl out of here."
"Yes, Mommy."
I gently patted his head as everyone gathered together to search for the threat. It didn't take long before another guard came running toward us.
"Alpha! Alpha! I found the body of a bear! It has flesh hanging from its claws. It must have gone crazy and tore the rogues apart!"
Everyone let out a relieved sigh.
"Guards, bring the bear here. We will burn it. Whatever caused this can't be allowed to spread."
Then I heard the so-called Luna speak.
"Grill, what if we bury it instead? That way, whatever is inside of it won't be able to get away."
"You're right," Grill replied. "We need to dig a hole big enough to bury it. Until then, everyone come inside. We have blankets and pillows so you can all get a good night's rest."
Come to think of it, I hadn't seen a mark on either of their necks.
Maybe I still had a chance. All I needed was a little time alone with Grill, and I'd have him. I knew I would. If I put on a tiny little pity party, he'd fall right into my hands. As we all walked into the pack house, I looked at him.
"Grill, is there a chance I could talk to you in your office? Just you and me. I need to discuss something with you."
He turned toward his mate, kissed her softly on the cheek, and she smiled. "Go ahead," she said. "I can handle this."
I wanted so badly to roll my eyes. This was going to be so damn easy. After he found his office, he opened the door but didn't bother closing it..So I did.
The door clicked shut behind us. Slowly, I walked over and wrapped my arms around him. Without hesitation, he removed my arms from around him and stepped away. I frowned.
"I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me, Grill. I've been so alone lately with only these people and my grandson. He doesn't have a father anymore. The Alpha killed his father, and I don't know what to do." I let a few fake tears roll down my cheeks. "Please don't turn us away. Please let us stay. I'll do whatever you want... just please don't send us away."
I grabbed his hand, pretending to beg. Calmly, he pulled his hand free and sighed.
"Catherine, I'm not turning you away. You and your grandson can stay here, but if you start any drama, you'll be out. I don't tolerate drama. Is that clear?"
He turned toward the door. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to help my mate."
I smirked as he turned his back to me. He opened the office door, then stopped without looking at me.
"Catherine... I know your tricks. Next time you want to speak with me, my mate will be here too." He glanced over his shoulder.
"Don't try that s**t again." Then he walked out of the room.
A slow smile spread across my face. Let the games begin.
