Chapter 11
Ava's POV
When Grill handed me his shirt, I couldn't stop staring at him.
My eyes wandered over his broad chest before drifting a little lower. Heat rushed to my cheeks, and I quickly turned away before he noticed. The first door I opened led into a walk-in closet.
"Oh, my Goddess..."
It was huge. You could fit an entire bedroom inside it. I spotted another door and hurried toward it. When I opened it, I found the bathroom. I slipped inside and quietly shut the door behind me.
For just a moment, I held his shirt against my face and breathed in.
It smelled exactly like him. Fresh rain... cedar... and something uniquely Grill. My wolf whimpered happily.
"Go to him," she pleaded. "He's our mate. You know you want him."
"I do," I whispered. "But I'm not ready."
I changed into his oversized shirt, washed my face, and looked at myself in the mirror. For the first time in years… I smiled.
Maybe things really could get better.
When I walked back into the bedroom, Grill had already climbed into bed. I slipped beneath the blankets beside him, turning onto my side with my back toward him. I was exhausted. Within minutes, sleep claimed me.
I didn't know how long I'd been asleep before I woke up again.
The bed beside me was empty. My heart immediately started racing.
Where was he? Without thinking, I followed his scent through the pack house. Every step made it stronger until I reached a doorway.
His office.
For one terrible second, my mind betrayed me. What if he's with Catherine? I hated myself for even thinking it.
No...That wasn't fair. He'd done nothing to make me doubt him.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped inside. Grill was sitting alone behind his desk, completely lost in thought. Papers were scattered everywhere, but he wasn't looking at any of them. He was simply staring into space.
"Grill..." I said softly.
He blinked several times before focusing on me.
"I turned around... and you weren't there."
Concern filled his eyes. "I'm sorry, honey. I didn't mean to worry you."
He stood and walked over to me. "I've just got a lot on my mind."
I nodded.
"I figured."
He gently brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear. "Go back upstairs. I'll be there soon. I promise."
I studied him for a moment before nodding. "Okay."
I wanted to ask what was bothering him. I wanted to help.
But we had only known each other for a day. Instead, I simply returned to bed. Around five that morning, I woke up again.
This time, Grill was lying beside me. I smiled. He'd kept his promise. Quietly, I watched him. His chest rose and fell with every slow breath.
His heartbeat echoed steadily through the room. He looked so peaceful.
"You know," he said without opening his eyes, "if you're going to stare at me like that, you could at least run your fingers through my hair."
I burst into laughter. "I knew you weren't asleep!"
He finally opened one eye and grinned. "I wasn't."
"Were you awake all night?"
He slowly shook his head. "No."
I raised an eyebrow. "Mostly."
He let out a quiet chuckle. "I just had a lot to think about."
His smile softened. "This pack..."
He looked around the room. "It's mine now."
I reached over and gently squeezed his hand. "You'll do great."
His eyes met mine. "Thanks."
For a moment, neither of us spoke. Then he sat up.
"Come on. We should get dressed."
I sat up beside him. "Where are we going?"
"Back to my old pack." He stretched before climbing out of bed.
"Jax mindlinked me last night. Everyone packed my things, and they're already loaded into a truck." "So we're bringing everything here?"
He nodded. "We'll take one of the cars there. The truck is staying here until we unload everything. After that, we'll come back for the car another day."

I smiled. "That sounds like a plan."
I climbed out of bed, smoothing his shirt over my legs.
"I guess I'll just wear the same clothes I had on yesterday."
He laughed. "For today."
I tilted my head. "For today?"
A mischievous grin spread across his face. "Tomorrow we're going shopping."
I couldn't help smiling. Maybe… Just maybe… This really was the beginning of my new life. This version strengthens Ava's emotional journey, shows her growing trust in Grill, and ends on a hopeful note that naturally leads into your next chapter, where they'll return to Jax's pack and Grill will prepare for his Alpha Ceremony.
