Chapter 1:
Grill's POV
It's been a crazy few weeks.
Right after the war ended, we buried the people we had lost. Some were still mourning their mates. It had only been a few weeks, so of course they were. Losing a mate wasn't something you just got over.
I, however, was ready for a night out.
After I finished talking with Jax, I headed out. I was already dressed, and he laughed when I told him where I was going. "Our club."
It wasn't your average nightclub. We had built this place with blood money. We were the mafia, the strongest and most feared organization around.
Even humans came here to have fun. We just had to be careful around them. No shifting. Some humans knew what we were, but those people were our mates, and they had sworn never to reveal our secret.
I parked my car in the crowded parking lot, more than ready to blow off some steam. Maybe I'd find someone to spend the night with.
That was half the reason people came here anyway. Hookups. No names. No strings attached.
We even had private rooms in the back for that exact reason.
Stepping out of my car, I headed toward the entrance. A huge neon sign glowed above the doors. “The Wolves Club.” Catchy name.
The funny thing was, wolves weren't the only ones who came here. Werebears, werecats, witches, Lycans, and every now and then a vampire stopped by. We kept donated blood on ice for them. Everyone knew the rules. No feeding on humans.
As I walked up, I spotted Adam standing at the entrance.
He was one of our bouncers.
"Hey, man," I said. "Anything exciting tonight?"
He shook his head while eyeing two women who had just walked inside. They were wolves. she-wolves, and judging by the way they were dressed, they were definitely looking for trouble.
"Nah, not really," he replied. "But it's still early. Looks like it's going to be girls' night. You came at the right time."
He smirked and wiggled his eyebrows. I laughed and punched him lightly in the arm before heading inside. Before I joined the crowd, I climbed the stairs to the office. There were always a few things I checked first. I looked over the night's earnings, reviewed the security footage from the previous evening, and made sure everything was running smoothly. Once I finished, I headed back downstairs.
The music pounded through the club as lights flashed across the dance floor. I made my way to the bar.
"The usual," I told the bartender.
He nodded, already knowing what I wanted. A whiskey mixed with wolfsbane. If you weren't used to it, the drink could make you violently sick. For weaker wolves, it could even be deadly.
I took a slow drink while scanning the room. Several couples danced on the raised stage in front of the mirrors while others filled the dance floor below. A few people emerged from the hallway leading to the private rooms. Damn. That had been quick.
I finished my drink and ordered another. The bartender casually nodded toward a dark-haired woman standing alone. Her eyes glowed faintly. A wolf. She looked nervous. My kind of fun. That nervous look probably wouldn't last long.
I lifted my glass toward her in thanks before walking over. She wore a tiny black dress that barely covered anything. She clearly hadn't come here to sit alone all night.
"So," I said with a grin, "you looking to have some fun?"
A slow smile spread across her face. Without saying another word, she slipped her hand into mine and led me toward one of the private rooms. She opened the door, pulled me inside, and locked it behind us.
"I noticed you the moment you walked in," she admitted. "I wanted you then, but I had to wait while you finished your business upstairs."
I couldn't help but smirk. The rest of the night disappeared behind a closed door. Later, after I cleaned up, I walked back into the room expecting to find her waiting. Instead… She was gone. I laughed to myself.
Well, damn. Guess that was a wham, bam, thank you, sir.
At least we'd both gotten what we came for. I headed back out into the club, enjoyed a couple more drinks, then finally called it a night.
Tomorrow I was on patrol. I needed to sleep.
