Chapter 31
Catherine POV
The sound of the jet's engines was almost hypnotic. Everyone else seemed to be asleep. Noah was curled up safely in Tony's arms, while Tony stared out the window, lost in his own thoughts.
I slowly opened my eyes, making sure neither of them noticed.
He doesn't trust me anymore. I could see it every time he looked at me.
Maybe I deserved it. Maybe I didn't. There were things I could never tell him. Things that would destroy everything. I quietly reached into my pocket and felt the small burner phone hidden there. It was still there.. Good.
I'd managed to keep it hidden through everything that had happened. No one had searched me well enough to find it.
Not even Alpha Grill. I slipped my hand back out before Tony could notice. I couldn't call anyone while we were on the jet anyway.
But as soon as we landed... I would. I closed my eyes again, pretending to sleep. Hours later...
"We're beginning our descent," the pilot announced over the speakers.
Noah stretched in Tony's arms before rubbing his sleepy eyes.
"Are we at Alphas Grill’s home again , Daddy?"
Tony smiled at him. "We are." Noah cheered, making both of us laugh.
For a brief second… everything felt normal. The jet landed smoothly despite the rain. Once it came to a stop, Tony carried Noah down the stairs while I followed behind them. Several black SUVs were already waiting on the runway. Tony's Beta, Mason, stepped forward.
"Welcome back, Alpha."
Tony nodded. "Anything else happen while I was gone?"
Mason's expression became serious. "We've had... visitors."
Tony froze. "What kind of visitors?"
"They never crossed the border, but our patrols spotted cloaked figures watching the pack lands."
My heart skipped a beat. Tony's jaw tightened. "How many?"
"Three."
"Wolves?"
Mason slowly shook his head. "No..."
"They moved too fast." "Vampires."
Tony looked toward the forest surrounding the runway. "I knew it," he growled.
"They've finally found us."
I lowered my head,pretending to hide the fear on my face. If the vampires had tracked us here… then she knew where I was.
And if she knew… everything was about to change.
Far away, hidden among the trees beyond the pack border, a hooded woman smiled as she watched the convoy of SUVs drive away.
"They've arrived," she whispered.
A pair of glowing crimson eyes opened beneath her hood. "Now the real game begins."
