Chapter 32
Vampire Mistress POV
Catherine had told me she would be coming back. She just didn't know how she was going to do it, not until we tore the face off that rogue. The moment that happened, Alpha Grill contacted Tony, and he rushed back to help. Catherine has no idea she's only a pawn.
Once we capture Ava and the Black Witch unlocks the dormant power sleeping inside her, Catherine will have served her purpose. After we get what we want, she will be of no use to us anymore.
I still don't understand why the Black Witch wanted Catherine involved in the first place. The woman is nothing but trouble.
Her own mate wants to get rid of her and replace her with another.
I saw it myself when I slipped into his mind. Standing in the shadows, I watched them. Catherine clung to Tony's arm while her son stood quietly beside her.
The poor child. If he doesn't get away from his mother, she'll destroy him. She'd sell him to the highest bidder if it gave her more power. There isn't a line she won't cross. Greed has already consumed her soul. And soon… It will cost her everything.
Tony POV
The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. We were being watched. I didn't let it show. If the vampire thought they were hidden, I'd let them keep believing that. Keep watching. Soon your head will be rolling across the ground. As we walked toward Alpha Grill's packhouse, Grill stepped outside with his Luna, Ava. She looked nothing like the women who obsessed over appearances.
She wore faded blue jeans, a simple pullover, and sandals. Her long hair was tied back into a ponytail, and there wasn't a trace of makeup on her face. Natural. Confident. Comfortable. Beside me, Catherine wore an expensive dress, towering heels, and enough makeup to impress royalty. Her hair flowed perfectly over her shoulders.
She always had to be the most beautiful woman in the room. I loved my mate. But sometimes… She tried far too hard. Tonight, after she falls asleep, I'll enter her mind. I'll find out exactly what she's planning. Because I know she's hiding something. I just haven't uncovered what it is yet. As we reached the entrance, I extended my hand.
"Hello, Alpha Grill. Luna Ava. Thank you for inviting us back to help with everything that's happening."
I smiled politely. "Once this is over, I think our packs should form an official treaty. I may even purchase land a few hours from here and establish another territory. China is becoming rather... dull. Nothing exciting ever seems to happen there anymore."
I paused before asking, "Has anything happened since your last report?"
Grill glanced around the courtyard before giving a subtle nod. "Let's discuss it inside," he said quietly. "Too many ears are listening out here."
I nodded in agreement. He was right. We followed Grill and Ava into the packhouse. As we walked, I couldn't help studying the territory.
This would make an excellent home for one of my packs. Strong defenses. Rich land. Good trade routes. But I also knew exactly whose territory this was.
Alpha Grill, and his former Alpha, Jax, controlled two of the most powerful mafia packs in existence. Respected. Feared. Deadly.
The last thing I intended to do was overstep my boundaries.
Inside, Grill led us into his office.
Catherine and I sat in the chairs facing his desk while Grill leaned casually against the front of it instead of sitting behind it. Ava moved to his side, resting a gentle hand on his shoulder. Most people would think she was comforting him. I wasn't so sure. Perhaps she was reminding him to stay calm.
After all...I had brought Catherine back. And Catherine had a habit of causing chaos wherever she went. She would do well to remember exactly where she was. This wasn't her territory. And Alpha Grill wasn't a man known for giving second chances.
