Kane stands up as I exit the bathroom. "Have you been here the whole time?"
I know he wants to ask me what I meant, but I'm not ready to share just yet. The mix of fear and excitement is overwhelming. As a surprise, I'm going to gift him a baby vest.
I know everyone does it, but it's the only thing I can think of. I have kept the tests so I can put them inside. It should arrive any minute now.
As I enter the closet to retrieve some clothes, I hear Kane's voice, filled with tension. When I look back, he is fixated on the bruise on my side, which is improving in colour compared to a few days ago.
"Yes, I have been away from you for long enough."
I rush to get dressed, so it takes his eyes off the thing. I know he hates it more than I do.
"Will you join me for breakfast?" I ask
