Chapter 20

1257 Words
The modest Valentina seems miles away from that. I was stupid, because I could have chosen Siena. Her father is not so demanding and, drunk and with nothing in my head, I had already f****d that ass when she proved to be anything but a virginal girl. At least the man who marries her will be sure she keeps herself a virgin where it matters. Hot as hell! But Valentina? The submissive posture and lack of pride are not good signs for my life. “I have things to resolve outside Sicily, and I should return in a few days.” “Only for the engagement party? Lorenzo, you need to meet the girl and…” “Mother, I do not need to. I am going to marry her, do not worry. Do as you wish, I approve whatever you choose. But I swear to God, I do not have the patience or time for this right now.” I pull away from her grip and only have time to greet Francesco and Arturo, who appear in my path. “You are late!” I grumble. “You are the one who woke up too early.” The youngest yawns. “Nervous to meet the bride?” “I am leaving on a trip. Francesco, take care of the shipments going out this weekend,” I ask, ignoring Arturo. “You are not going to be here to meet that delicious bride of yours?” “Feel free to enjoy yourself,” I say ironically, because he has been bothering me since he saw her again for a moment last night, when he went to the De Luca house. “Oh, brother, do not tempt me…” “You have my blessing,” I say, mocking his fascination. I close the door and head to the airport. I look at the clock and see I still have a little time to stop by the club in the center, one of our most profitable laundering hubs, and handle one of the matters before leaving for the north. I arrive at the Club, and it is still too early for the whores to be working. “Mr. Vitale! Welcome.” The waiter seems nervous when he recognizes me, while cleaning the counter after throwing out the last drunk. “Where is Leo?” I ask for the manager of the place. “In the office. I will take you there.” “I will go alone.” I look at him seriously, because I see too much carelessness for someone on duty. The place must be watched constantly and not only when customers arrive. “This place isn’t just a brothel. It’s also one of the main hubs where the mafia collects protection money in Palermo.” “Yes, sir.” I walk to the back and open the door without knocking. Leo is sitting in his chair, while a black-haired w***e takes his c**k into her mouth without mercy. I could have entered and killed the bastard and he would never have known what happened because of how distracted he was. The brunette chokes when she hears the noise, immediately stops what she is doing, and wipes the side of her mouth. “Playing during work hours?” I ask as I enter, while he quickly gets up to give me the seat at the desk. I look at the chair with disgust and raise an eyebrow. When he notices, he sees some of his own c*m on the seat. He adjusts his pants quickly, throws the girl out, and changes the chair. “Sorry, sir. I did not know you were coming today.” “Did you get what I asked for?” I ask, ignoring the scene and his ridiculous apology. “Yes. Mendorato informed me that the Di Ferro have been receiving threats for days, but they tried to handle the problems alone. That is why we did not know anything.” “Who was sending those threats?” “He thinks it was from outside. Spain is restarting its narcotics market and intends to eliminate the strongest competition.” “He thinks? That bastard thinks and still tried to handle it alone?” “Sir, they were empty threats and…” “Damn! Empty? It is my f*****g money burned in that damn warehouse. I should have given that business to De Luca instead.” “But he already takes care of all of old De Luca territory. Giving him the northern market would turn him into the sole distributor.” “I know that, and that is why this s**t stayed with the Di Ferro. But at least I would not have lost millions because of incompetence!” I frown while running a hand through my hair, thinking of a way to solve everything. The Cosa Nostra has been receiving isolated anonymous threats, which has generated distrust about our power among associates and some Capodecinas. We need to maintain not only the appearance of power, but power itself. And having threats hanging over our heads does not make us as threatening as we truly are. Everything was under control until a threat to the northern core actually came true. If the i***t Di Ferro had informed us, we would have handled everything. But no. Wanting to prove whatever the hell, he scratched our untouchable reputation and made us lose millions. “Besides the Spaniards, who else does he suspect?” “Someone from inside.” I slowly raise my eyes and take a deep breath so I do not explode. “Someone inside the Cosa Nostra committed sabotage and you say nothing. Remind me why I should not kill you and the Di Ferro.” “Sir, we are part of the clan… we would not betray…” “I could consider your omission, by itself, betrayal. s**t! You have until tomorrow morning to trace those threats.” “Yes, sir.” He only obeys, like all the others. I do not have the reputation of being the calmest person in the world, and he knows I could kill him or punish him just for breathing wrong, which my father considers a flaw, but I simply do not tolerate basic mistakes like this. One of the soldiers is driving the car, while Francesco and I try to find a more efficient way to discover what is happening right under our noses. “What are you going to do?” he asks, his voice dropping a few tones on the phone, and I realize someone entered his office at Parola. “I am going to personally inspect the Di Ferro distribution. If there is any diversion of merchandise, I will know. I cannot delegate that verification, because if someone is sabotaging us, they would hide it very well. While I am away, check with your associate friends if there was any seizure of shipments coming from Russia or Spain.” “Do you think one of them took losses and wants to stop us from making a profit too?” “I do not think the Bratva and the Spaniards would do that, but I need certainty. We are going to eliminate every possibility.” “And if everything is normal?” “I will need to get closer to Dante and know how De Luca’s business is functioning.” “How will you do that? He knows you cannot stand him.” “I have a fiancée now. See you when I return.
