The lights died—not only in Zhou Lan's classroom, but across the entire school. A campus bright as day plunged into darkness. It swallowed the buildings like a giant beast, caging the chaotic grounds in terror.
The sudden blackout startled Zhou Lan. Remembering the mutants around him, he forced his eyes open. Instead of pitch-black darkness, he saw a faint red glow. Within it, everything looked clearer than before.
Before he could wonder why, a mutant raised its claws and lunged. Zhou Lan dodged on instinct, only to find his body astonishingly light. He slipped past the strike effortlessly. His human instincts still urged him away from a fight, and he raced for the classroom door.
"The whole world's changing?!" Shock and panic finally gave way to realization, and Zhou Lan instinctively glanced at the Blood Moon.
It pulsed with seductive crimson light, like a scarlet eye gleaming with unmistakable amusement.
Distracted while fleeing, Zhou Lan crashed headfirst into a mutant and stumbled back.
When he regained his balance, he saw that the mutant blocking him had gone flying.
"I'm this strong?" The discovery shocked him. He glanced over his shoulder at the mutant chasing him.
Its grotesque face and distorted body killed any desire to confront it head-on. Survival came first. He could test his new strength later.
"Whoa—aaah!"
Just as Zhou Lan prepared to bolt again, someone cried out. Fire flared in the classroom, and a boy shouted from inside the flames, "I can control fire!"
The commotion made the fleeing students realize that many of them had awakened abilities. Power filled them with confidence. They slowed, wearing the arrogant expressions of people who believed one attack could wipe out every mutant.
Reality crushed that fantasy. The flames did not even scorch the mutant's skin. Its changed body clearly no longer feared ordinary fire. It lunged at the boy and raked a deep wound across his chest with one claw.
"Gah—aaaah!" The boy screamed in agony. The mutant ignored him and drove a claw through his abdomen. Blood surged out in a flood.
"Blood..." The scent stopped Zhou Lan in his tracks. He turned and pounced toward the wounded boy without thinking.
With the fire gone, darkness reclaimed the classroom. No one noticed Zhou Lan himself. They only saw a streak of red slicing through the room—the arc traced by his crimson eyes.
In an instant, he landed beside the boy.
Why did he want that blood so badly? The question flashed through his mind, but instinct moved faster. He bit down and drained the boy into a desiccated corpse within moments.
Only then did Zhou Lan grasp the severity of what had happened. "I've become a vampire?"
Silvery-white strands spilled around him, soft as silk and shimmering faintly. Against that curtain of silver, Zhou Lan could clearly see what he had become.
His short black hair had vanished, replaced by long silver-white locks that cascaded like a waterfall beneath the moon. His dark eyes had turned vivid bloodred, mysterious and mesmerizing.
To his astonishment, his entire body had transformed into that of a young woman. Her legs were slender, supple, and beautifully shaped, yet packed with strength. The only disappointment was her height—probably not even five foot seven.
Zhou Lan's face was pale and delicate, her lips faintly red and glossy as ripe cherries. Her flawless skin gleamed like snow over polished jade. She looked like a princess stepped straight out of a fairy tale.
"I've turned into a vampire girl!" Zhou Lan confirmed.
