“Hey, sleepyhead,” I heard a soft female voice whisper in my ear. A smile instantly formed on my lips, as I knew right away who was drawing me from my dreams, which had been all about her. “You’re here.” “I am here.” She ran her hand over my cheek. “I see that your leg is down. And I saw that you had a visit with Nurse Bracket, the physical therapist, this morning. You didn’t even wake up to eat your lunch. It’s still on your tray. The purple grapes look more like raisins now.” Her hand ran through my hair, and I sighed with the wonderful sensation. “Can you kill that evil woman for me, baby?” Her lips pulled up to one side. “You know that you shouldn’t be calling me that while you’re still a patient here. But no one has ever called me that before. I like hearing you say that to me.”
