Chapter3

Cassian The penthouse was silent, but it wasn’t empty. I could feel her presence like a live wire in the air—sharp, defiant, dangerous. Aurora Wynn wasn’t the kind of woman to submit quietly, and I’d promised myself I’d savor breaking her in. Not because I wanted to hurt her, but because I craved that fire—flame against flame. I hadn’t planned on returning that night. My world was chaos—boardroom battles, hostile takeovers, and now, the merger in the Hamptons looming like a guillotine. But the moment I locked that door behind me earlier, locking her inside with me, my mind wouldn’t let go of her. That kiss wasn’t the end. It was just the beginning. I wanted her to understand who she belonged to. Not just in ink on paper, but in every breath, every shiver, every whispered surrender. Control wasn’t a threat—it was a promise. A claim. My heels clicked down the marble hallway as I strode to the bedroom. The door was cracked open when I arrived, and the dim light spilled out, revealing her silhouette. I pushed it fully and found her seated on the edge of my bed—vulnerable but unyielding. Her eyes caught mine, cold flames daring me to cross her boundaries. “You’re still awake,” I said, voice low. She met my gaze. “I’m waiting.” Waiting. For what? Defeat? For me to break her? “No.” I moved closer, closing the distance between us. “For me to take what I want.” She swallowed hard but didn’t flinch. Good. I grabbed her wrist, pulling her to her feet. The silk of her dress was like a whisper beneath my fingers—tight and fragile. “Let me remind you, Aurora. You signed a contract. You’re mine.” She jerked her wrist free. “I signed because I had no choice.” “You always have a choice,” I said, voice hardening. “You can resist, or you can learn. But you can’t run.” Her breath hitched. The tension thickened like a storm about to break. I leaned in so close my lips brushed the shell of her ear. “Tonight, you’ll learn obedience.” Before she could react, I spun her around and pressed her against the cold glass. The city lights flickered behind her—distant, meaningless. All that mattered was the heat between us. My hands slid along her curves, rough, claiming. She shivered, but didn’t push back. Not yet. My mouth found the back of her neck, teeth grazing her skin, sending sparks through her nerves. “Tell me you belong to me.” Her voice cracked, but the words came: “I belong to you.” That was the beginning of the lesson. Not just words, but actions. I kissed her hard—tongue demanding, hands exploring, fingers threading through hair as I pulled her closer. The silk dress slipped off her shoulder, exposing skin so pale and perfect I could almost believe she was a dream. But she was real. Too real. When I pushed her down onto the bed, the world shifted. I was no longer the ruthless businessman; I was a man who needed her in a way he refused to admit. Her hands tangled in my shirt as I undressed her with hunger and precision, every inch of bare skin a confession. I traced my lips down her collarbone, over her ribs, feeling her pulse racing beneath my fingertips. She arched into me—reluctant, yet desperate. Her breath came in sharp gasps as I explored the spaces between teasing and taking, teaching her the language of possession. “Say my name,” I commanded, voice thick with need. She hesitated. “Cassian,” she whispered, voice trembling. “Louder,” I urged. “Cassian.” Good. I pulled her into me, our bodies slick with heat, moving in a rhythm of power and surrender. But beneath the passion, I knew this was only the surface. Outside this room, shadows were gathering. Rivals who wanted to destroy me, and by extension, her. People who didn’t care who got hurt, as long as they won. I pressed a finger to her lips. “No matter what comes next, you stay with me.” Her eyes searched mine, raw and uncertain. “Why?” she asked. “Because I’m not done with you. And I’m not done protecting you.” The truth was darker than that. I didn’t want her safe because I was noble—I wanted her safe because losing her meant losing control. And that was unacceptable. The moment was shattered by a sudden, loud knock on the door. My heart stopped for half a second. “Cassian, it’s urgent,” my security chief’s voice came through the speaker. “There’s a breach at Rhys Labs. We’ve detected unauthorized access. We think someone’s trying to steal proprietary data—and it’s linked to East Hamptons. Possible CODE BLACK.” I released Aurora and stood, the fierce predator returning instantly. “This isn’t just about business anymore,” I said quietly. Her eyes widened. I turned back to the door, locking eyes with her one last time. “This war just got personal. And you’re right in the middle of it.” I reached for my phone, fingers trembling—not with fear, but anticipation. The breach wasn’t a mistake. It was a warning. From someone who wanted to tear everything I built down. From someone who knew Aurora was the weakest link. The danger wasn’t abstract anymore. It was real. It was close. I looked at her again—fragile, fierce, defiant—and I realized one thing: No one would hurt her but me. Because I would own her. Completely. Or I would destroy her. The knock came again—harder this time. My security team’s voice crackled through the speaker, urgency thick. “Cassian, they’re inside the perimeter. We need immediate extraction.” I turned to Aurora. “No one’s getting in or out tonight without me knowing. You’re coming with me.” She hesitated, confusion and fear flickering across her face. “I don’t do rescue missions,” I said, voice low and deadly. “But I’m making an exception.” I grabbed my jacket, sliding it over my bare chest, feeling the heat of her skin beneath my fingers. “This isn’t a game anymore. It’s survival.” Her eyes locked onto mine—wide, wild. And then the power cut out. The room plunged into darkness. Silence. Until a slow, deliberate voice echoed from the shadows. “Cassian Rhys. You and your little contract bride have ten minutes before this entire building goes up in flames.”
