I gasped loudly in shock. They all turned, glancing about the place. I quickly covered my mouth with my hands to stifle the cries that were threatening to escape my lips. Farhad turned his head to face the man who had held my mother before she was beheaded. “Someone is in here. Find the rat and bring it to me.” He commanded. The man moved,he began to search the place and my heartbeat instantly accelerated. “You are cruel,Farhad! We have done nothing to you!!” Father angrily snapped but it only made Farhad laugh. When the man came closer to the shelf I was hiding behind,I felt my heart jump into my throat. He sniffed the air, lowering his head to observe it carefully. He moved to the exact spot I was in. I quickly scooted backwards from the shutter as I could see him in front of me. Suddenly,he took out a gun and he began shooting repeatedly at the shelf. Out of fear,I shrieked, giving up my cover. I heard a loud crashing sound. The shelf fell to the ground with a loud thud, the shutter was ripped off its hinges and then,a hand grabbed me,pulling me out of the place. “Found the rat,Your Highness.” The man announced as he pulled me up on my feet. Farhad shifted his gaze toward our direction and when our eyes met,he furrowed his brows. “You have a daughter?” “She is only twelve,Farhad! She is nothing but a little girl.” Father said, his voice was heavy with tears. “Is that why you hid her away from me?” “You Arab men know no shame! If I didn’t for a long time, you would have come for her.” Farhad walked past father, approaching me. His eyes were studying me and when he stood in front of me,I began to tremble. “What are you called, child?” He asked. I could see his face now and to my surprise,he is a very handsome man. His deep set brown eyes were observing my face. They gleamed like crystals and they held an abstract emotion in them. “Gw-Gwendoline.” I answered. “Such a beautiful name for a little girl. Golden haired, skin pale ivory and eyes as blue as the deep sea...” his hand cupped my chin and fear instantly gripped me. “Don’t do anything to her! Let her go!!” Father yelled. Farhad scowled. “Silence the insolence.” I glanced in time to see one of the men draw out his sword and immediately,he smited Father with it. Father gasped and when the man took out the blade from his body, father fell to the ground lifelessly. “NOOOOOOO!!!” I screamed. I fought to release myself from the man’s hold, but he held me,putting my hands behind me whilst pulling me to the ground. I knelt in front of Farhad, gritting my teeth as tears streamed down my cheeks. I held his emotionless gaze, the anger brewing inside of me as all I could feel for him was immense hatred. “Do you resent me,child?” Farhad asked. I couldn’t answer,I was just staring at him with my fists clenched behind my back. “You should. Besides,I was fair to your father. He shouldn’t have betrayed my trust. Selling information to your kind... What was he expecting?” He said. “What should we do to the girl,Your Highness?” The man behind me asked. Farhad held my gaze for a while as though he was contemplating. His eyes observed me and it was as if they were preying on me. “Sell her to the desert merchants. They know what to do with her. Prostitution, servitude or slavery, any they wish. She has no place in our lands.” He said. I was recklessly pulled up,another came closer, binding my hands with a rope. My eyes burned with hatred, they were fixed on the devil in front of me and he held my gaze unflinchingly. I was dragged towards the exit like a piece of rag. I glanced at the bodies of my dead parents, tears blurring my vision. When I was taken out of the study,I scowled. ‘One day,I will have my revenge. Farhad... one day... you will beg for mercy as I watch you fall to your own death.’ I thought…
