CHAPTER 15

The scanner started to spin again. After a while, the pain started to reduce gradually. The height of the bed dropped down slowly. The doctor came in. “You can get up now, Charlotte” I slowly got up from there and placed my feet on that cold floor. “You can get changed” he smiled. I nodded and went in the changing room. I changed to my casuals and came out to my mom. I saw her talking with the other doctors who were there inside the examining room. I rubbed my palm against my dress and went in to hear what they were saying. “You’ll get the report within two days, we’ll call you when you should come to collect it” That’s all they said when I entered the room. “Did you see anything in my stomach?” The doctor looked at me. “Huh? Like what?” I scoffed and cleared my throat. “Huh?” “Like worm…?” He chuckled and came near me. “Don’t worry, Charlotte” “It maybe because you ate lotta chocolates!” I didn’t wanna laugh but I just chuckled nervously. I looked at my mom and signalled to leave. “Okay Doctor, thank you for your time” I thanked and left the room behind my mom. I startled up when I came out. “Mom!” “But it was a worm! I saw it!” “Even you saw it!” She patted my head. “I know that, Charley” “Let’s wait for the result” I sighed. “I’ll go and get the medicines for your fever” I hummed back in response. I sat on the main area where others were sitting. Someone tapped on my shoulders. “What?” I turned back to see a sweet little girl. She smiled and it was so lovely. “Hey!” “What’s your name?” I turned out completely and kneeled down to her height. “My name is Lily” she chuckled softly. “Hey Lily, are you lost?” “Where is your mom?” She dropped her expression sadly. “She’s dead” I was shocked. “Oh, I’m sorry” “Lily..” She patted on my shoulders. “So, why are you here?” She laughed. “Because I’m dead!” I frowned at her. “What?” She pointed out her finger to a stretcher that was rolling up with doctors crowded around it. “There’s my body going” I started sweating and my heart racing. I stood up from there and rushed to the stretcher that was being pulled. “Uhm, excuse me!” I peeped through the doctors and saw a little girl’s burnt body. “What the f**k!” It looked like that little girl I spoke with. I palpitated. I looked around for the girl but I found her nowhere. I started rushing to my seat and all over the main area but she wasn’t there. “Charley!” I heard my calling out my name. I looked at her all startled up, my body sweating with my heart racing. “Mom!” “Let’s go quickly!” I started running to the exit where our car was parked, without looking for my mom. I slouched on our car and took a breath. My mom came back running to me. she looked pretty mad for misbehaving. “Mom!” I still heard my breath out loud. “I saw little girl who was dead already!”   My mom looked worried and exhaled sharply.  “Charley, it must be the medications that they injected…” “Honey.. you’re worrying too much about your odds” “There is no way that you could see someone who is dead” “It might be hallucination, baby” I looked away and stomped my foot at regression. “Mom, I wasn’t hallucinating!” “I saw it for real!” “I saw her body too, mom” My mom came closer and patted me on my head. She kissed on my forehead then. It was warm. “I don’t know what to say..” “It’s okay, that girl is dead now” “So, don’t worry Charley” I still couldn’t accept it but I just pretended that I was okay. She opened the car door for me and went through the other way to get on her seat. I got and passed on my seat belt. She started the engine and started to ride off the hospital. “Mom, I’m hungry” “Can you pull over by McD?” She pulled over the car somewhere that I didn’t recognize. She looked at me and smiled. She reached behind her seat to take her bag. She opened it and a box outside. “Gross! It’s salad!” I groaned. She chuckled. She handed it over to me and gave me a spoon. “Mom! I’m not hungry to eat a salad!” She frowned at me. “You gotta eat this, Charley” “It would give you some energy rather than those stuffed buns!” I rolled off my eyes and opened the box. “Whatever!” The smell ruined my mood to eat crisps. “Awhh!” I had it somehow by then, we reached our home. I took my medicines and climbed upstairs and fell on my bed straight.
