Chapter 22 - admitting feelings

“Hey there you are !” 

A loud voice erupted from behind making us both turn round. Finn was walking towards us with Bethany.

“We were looking for you Ella , you said you were just getting drinks”

“Sorry...i” before I could finish Zane jumped in, “let’s go your getting cold”

Taking my hand he pulled me up and led me back to the fire area, we all sat around the open bonfire , the heat was so comforting on my body and I couldn’t help but stare at the glow, it was hypnotising . Zane was on my left talking to Tyrell and Bethany was on my right, she was telling me all about her time with Finn and how funny he was with his jokes. I could tell she liked him. Finn was now teasing a very annoyed Max by picking up his cap and pretending to throw it in the fire. 

My mind kept drifting in and out of her conversation, I couldn’t help but be in my own moment, Zane was playing with the bottom of my top at the back , I don’t know if he realised that he was doing it or not but just having him beside me felt right, I hate to admit it but he gives me butterflies whenever am around him and before just seeing him laugh lifted something inside of me. It was like I saw the real person behind all of the horrible rumours. I had to finally admit to myself that I may actually have feelings for him now. I have to stop getting my hopes up, the chances of him feeling the same are very thin. 

“So Finn seems nice then?” I said tuning back into the conversation 

“Yea he does” Bethany smiled then whispered “ so what about ..” nodding her head to my left 

“Shh ! We just talked “

We stayed for an hour or two hanging out with everyone by the fire before we headed back. Zane never once left my side , even when Josh had asked to talk to him he simply said that he would catch up with him tomorrow. The girl from before tried to come over but she didn’t even get so much of a look from Zane. We also found out that Jack had tripped up and hit his head cutting it open and that is why he had left earlier on.

And just like that the weekend was over, I couldn’t believe that little old shy me was actually hanging out in a group of actual people. But now I was back in school and reality came crashing back down. Bethany and I stopped outside our lockers , down the hall we saw a rather stressed looking Josh talking to Zane.

“Bethany is Josh okay?” I asked

“I think so..although he does seem more ...distracted lately , especially since Zane came on the scene and he’s been round my house more than usual , anyways let’s go we don’t want to be late” 

The morning went by quickly and I was so glad to be on lunch break. Bethany and I chose to eat outside for lunch today and walked to the shop to grab a sandwich. Walking back up the street towards school we could see Zane leaning on a wall smoking with Josh by his side and a small group of people , people way too popular for the likes of me , luckily we hurried past , I lowered my head Hoping not to be seen. It almost looked as though they were waiting for someone...
