I married him

“OH NO!" Tessa screamed, her eyes wide with fear. “What have you done?" She shook, the tears finally falling from her eyes.. I tipped my chin and stared down at the screaming woman who had fallen to the ground. “Emma! Emma! I am sorry." She rushed to her mother's side but got pushed off as the woman resumed crying. “Apologize to her quickly!" She hissed between her teeth, looking like she was about to open the ground and bury herself in it. “No." I blurted. “What?" Her jaw dropped. My ears twitched as I picked up the sounds of running feet. She grabbed my hand, her face getting drained of color before she swallowed. “Please Draven. Apologize to her now. Please." She pleaded, her eyes getting covered in a thin sheen of tears again. Looking at her mother who was already on the floor, rolling like her life depended on it, Tessa bowed, her head almost touching her legs. “We are sorry, Emma." Her loud voice cracked. She tugged on my hand but I stood tall and refused to bow even when I felt the presence of Conrad and a few other strangers in the study. “What just happened?" Conrad thundered as he hurried towards his wife. She sat up immediately and pointed towards me. “He…he struck me." She whined and the gasps that followed irritated me. “What did you just say?" He asked, turning to look at me. Instead of answering him, she resumed crying, squeezing out tears from her dry eyes. “What did you do to her?" He asked slowly. I didn't answer, I only stared at him even as he let go of his wife and marched towards me. “We are sorry. We apologize." Tessa cried, moving to stand in front of me, her arms spread wide to shield me. I raised a brow at her bravery. “Get out of my way!" He snarled at her. Gently tapping her shoulder, I nodded at her when she turned to look at me. “Apologize to Emma at this moment." He barked, pointing at the floor. “No." “Draven!" Tessa cried but I trained my eyes on Conrad's instead. What would he do? “What is going on here?" Another voice boomed from the entrance. I looked towards the blocked door to see the visitors part away for a pot bellied man to walk through accompanied by a younger version of him. “His Excellence, Mr. Maximus!" Conrad shouted his greeting, bowing almost immediately after. I raised a brow. His Excellence? “What is going on here?" The man repeated forcefully, looking at Emma on the floor before turning to look at me. “This son of a gun struck my wife!" “Mum!" Blair cried, rushing into the room and towards her mother on the floor. “Who is he?" The younger man asked, eyeing me suspiciously. “Dax. That lunatic there is Tessa's husband." Blair responded from where she knelt. “Pfft!" Dax burst into a ridiculous laughter, the people around him joining in. “You mean this thing here is Tessa's husband?" He eyed me from head to toe as he stepped right in front of his pot bellied father. I expected Tessa to turn away from me in shame, but she edged closer, taking my hands in hers even as she trembled. "Yes.” She declared loudly for all to hear, her voice cracking with fear. "He is my husband. I married him!” She said, stunning everyone including me. Conrad was the first to snap out of it. “Now that he has struck your mother, what are you going to do about it, you ungrateful child?" Conrad hissed. “Are you going to defend that disabled shameless beggar?" Blair cried from where she knelt close to the still crying Emma. I clenched my teeth at the tag. “You married that…thing?” Dax huffed, his nose scrunched up in disgust. "Yes, she did. What are you going to do about it?” I asked, pushing Tessa behind and hobbling forward. "Step back son.” The pot bellied governor panted as he walked towards me, staring at my swollen eyes. "How dare a beggar like you raise your hand on my in-law to-be?” He stopped a few inches away from me, his pot belly nudging me. "I. am. no. beggar.” I hissed, my lips twitching from anger. "Apologize to her this instant or risk being beaten.” He demanded authoritatively, his double chin shaking. "I won't.” I spat back. "How dare you?” He boomed and raised his fat hand to strike me but I held it mid-air causing everyone to freeze. "Draven! What do you think you are doing?" Tessa whisper-shouted behind me, pinching my shirt and missing my skin by an inch. “What do you think you are doing? Let me go this instant!" He roared, his tiny eyes widening. "Get her!” His son bellowed behind him and soon muscular men broke in and grabbed Tessa from behind me. "Let my dad go and receive your punishment or watch your wife get beaten to pulp.” I glared at him, clutching my cane as I still held on to his father's hand. I could feel my power surge, my hands were beginning to tremble and my deformed leg began to strengthen as I bared my teeth. I will show them who the true master was. "Draven. No!” Tessa yelled from where she stood, pure terror in her eyes like she knew what was about to happen. But I didn't listen, I let out a roar and was about to attack the pot bellied governor when Tessa let out a loud scream.
