It began as a knocking.
Deirdre had heard the sounds months before and had briefly wondered whether she was being haunted by a poltergeist. Then several weeks went by without any more of the strange knocking—until she started reading Sullivan’s journal about Neithernor. Deirdre wrote to the Mountaineers:
