The Last Traveler

New York City has such a storied history, one rich in culture, art, and beauty—a beauty that can be found within its people and its architecture and its enduring spirit as the de facto capital of the world. But its past is also riddled with violence. It’s a city thick with scar tissue. Though New York is a showcase of what is best in humanity, those scars are a constant reminder that our worst instincts could always be just around the corner.
When I read Deirdre’s post about her attack, it was difficult not to feel haunted by the ghosts of the city’s past. Though she quickly allayed any concerns for her safety:
