Summer’s POV By the time Lena and I pulled into the apartment complex, the sun had almost disappeared completely. The sky was painted in deep shades of orange and purple, the last traces of daylight fading behind the buildings. I leaned my head against the passenger window and watched the city drift by. Today had been… Unexpected. This morning, I’d walked into Knight Constructions expecting nothing more than another ordinary workday. Now… I was leading one of the company’s biggest projects. Life really did have a strange sense of timing. “You’ve been smiling.” Lena’s voice pulled me back. I blinked. “I have?” “Mhm.” She pulled into her parking space. “It’s subtle.” “But it’s there.” I smiled again. “I guess today wasn’t completely terrible.” “I’m calling that progress.”
