Chapter 2
“Oh no!” Loretta cried.
Ruth hurried toward John, who let out a quick yelp. His face was now beet red; he was well aware that his new career aboard the Splendor of the Seas was going to be over before it even started.
Heart pounding in her chest, Ruth realized there was little she could do. She wouldn’t make it over to him in time to help him steady the tray. Instead, she’d be slipping and falling on the buttercream frosting that would soon coat the floor.
This was it—the end of the line for these cupcakes.
Then John leaned back slightly, and his face grew serious. Somehow, he’d found purchase with his left foot and was steadying himself. Not only that, he was balancing the tray just in time.
The cupcakes eased back into their original position, and Ruth and Loretta let out
