The author of Dark Reckoning—the Vincent Von Hemmingsly—was standing behind Ruth. The same man whom she’d caught embracing another woman, indulging in a heated kiss with a lady who was not his wife, only hours ago.
Vincent’s eyes traced the length of her body as his beard stretched with a playful grin. “You look stunning.”
“I beg your pardon?” Ruth arched an eyebrow. “You look like you’ve had one too many cocktails.”
“Oh, c’mon, I know you feel the same way I do.”
“Where’d you get an idea like that?”
Vincent moved in closer. “I saw you staring at me out in the dining hall.”
Ruth took a step back. Perhaps he’d seen her looking at him when she was talking to Kay Lynn about his marriage and his history with Nancy. “I was not staring at you.”
