Chapter 10 “Yeah, you heard me right,” Clive said into the phone. “Vincent is dead.” “Did you hear that?” Loretta asked. Ruth nodded. Of course, she heard it. Clive Ellington, the disgruntled high school star running back of Arden Heights, the man who called Vincent an attention hog and a rat. “Here he comes,” Loretta said. “Should we hide?” Ruth glanced around. There weren’t many people lingering around the area filled with lounge chairs at the moment. Then she chuckled at herself. Hide? Now, they were just being ridiculous. “What are we? A couple of schoolgirls? We don’t need to hide!” Still on the phone, Clive’s voice pierced the air. “Everyone thought he was a saint. But I knew the real Vincent!” Their eyes went wide. Ruth nudged her friend. “You’re right, Loretta. Let’s hide.”
