Chapter 5Christian could not always sneak away to find Mal after everybody went to bed, and Mal wasn’t always near the house. The days he couldn’t do anything more than catch a glimpse of her were painful. He felt her absence when he didn’t see her small smiles, or hear her voice, or feel the tender touch of soft lips against his. When he did catch a few moments of her time, it wasn’t enough. Worse than that, their time together was always under a cloud of guilt. Mal knew he wasn’t doing anything wrong by spending time with her—especially since he was growing more and more fond of her—but there was a proper way to be with her.
