The moon shone brightly upon us. There was no wind causing the strong scent of blood and rouge wolves to remain in the air overwhelmingly. The stench was so putrid Pixie, and I could taste it. Three prominent figures caught my attention. Even in the darkness, I could see them as clear as day.
"My King, look," I shouted at my brother as I pointed towards where Alpha Hersh, his Beta, and Elder Brian stood. The Alpha had ordered his rogue army to stand down for the moment as they gathered a thousand yards from the castle steps. Those who had been engaging the rouges in battle pull back to the castle walls standing, now, amongst the strongest royal warriors.
The Alpha King looked towards them. Marcus always had an impassive look on his face when confronted by an enemy. Laying his eyes upon them prompted the disgraced Alpha to speak.
"My King, I denounce you! For you have taken what is mine, and I will take everything that belongs to you! Your Queen will be mine to do with what I please. I see the Princess is with you as well. I will cleanse the Kingdom of that little abomination," he shouted over the sounds of snarls and snapping jaws.
An ABOMINATION? Wow, the audacity of some Alphas.
"I can't wait to bit his head off! He has no idea who he is messing with," growled out Pixie.
The Luna Queen and I kept our facial expressions unrevealing to his insults. We would not give him the satisfaction of an emotional response.
Marcus walked forward to join me at the top of the stairs flanked by Paxton and Jeremy. Paxton and Jeremy had been my fathers Beta and Gamma. Neither had heirs, so the Alpha King had the opportunity to choose his Beta and Gamma. Marcus loved, respected, and above all else, trusted our brothers, and they had proven to him that they would be his ideal choices for his Beta and Gamma. There had been an uproar about having hybrid twins serve the Alpha King, but Marcus did not care for nor acknowledge discriminatory bias. Therefore, Paxton and Jeremy were asked to remain as Beta and Gamma till the twins were ready to take on their new roles.
The individuals that had acted supportive of his decision, but were in reality, extremely upset by the Alpha King's selection were his childhood friends Devin and Max. They had believed they would be the next Royal Beta and Gamma, only to be disappointed upon Marcus's pronouncement.
As Marcus and the others moved forward I not wanting my armor to affect them, I began distancing myself.
"Shield your armor with your magic. You should be able to hold the protection spell around the King, Queen, and yourself without much effort," suggested Pixie. I did as she said. I concentrated the protection shield thinly, covering just my body armor.
"Pixie, how do you know to the extent I can push my magic," I asked her?
"Princess, we are one, and I can feel your power and magic and the depths to which you can push it. Attaining your wolf has increased your power threshold substantially," she said. I didn't realize that I would become more potent upon receiving my wolf.
Scanning the crowd again, as I saw two sets of familiar eyes locked on the Alpha King. Beside Alpha Hersh's Beta was Devin and Max.
"Treasonous traitors," Pixie and I growled out! I could not believe that they would move against the one individual that always had their back.
The Alpha King's face remained unmoved even upon fixing his gaze on two the two people who were like brothers to him. He was always wary of others outside of our immediate family because of what had happened to his mother. Our father and his mother had been betrayed by his father's childhood friend and several council members.
Although he stood there as if a God-like statue towering before us, I could feel his anger and blood lust radiating off of him. The Kings' aura radiated intense heat and overwhelming power like that of flames within a raging inferno as they lapped aggressively against the rage emitting from my own. Very few werewolves could stand to be near him when he was like this. Even I found it suffocating at times.
"Hersh, disgraced former Alpha of the Bleeding Moon pack! You and conspirators will not see the light of day," my King said with a menacing simile spread across his face. There would be no mercy. Pixie and I couldn't help but grin in response to my brothers' words.
My brother then opened his mind-link to every wolf and witch within the pack. "We shall show those that move against us no mercy. Our enemies shall all parish tonight. I command that none of these traitors shall see the light of day. There is no reason for any of those before us to be captured and questioned. We all know why they are here," he said.
"Ellina, Hypatia, I wish you would please stay back. I could not forgive myself if anything happened to either of you," my brother said to us. I could hear the sincerity in his voice.
"My King Ellina have fought in many battles although not under your command. As I have said, brother, my wolf says that I am to protect you both, and Ellina will also protect you. Fighting alongside you and our pack is our greatest honor, brother," I said to him and all those around us as I unsheathed my swords. They caught the moonlight shimmered as I crossed them over my chest and brought them down to my sides.
"Pixie, are you ready for this," I asked her?
"Of course, Princess, I'm with you till the end. You will feel that you will need me before the night is over. Remember, focus on my form, and you will be able to shift quickly but will rip through your armor," she told me. I made a mental note to magically remove my armor once I feel myself begin to shift.
I could feel the tension and anticipation in the air as we waited for my Kings' command to attack. At that moment, our forces on the northeastern border materialized out of thin air before us. I saw Angelica and Sophie standing alongside their mates, the look of determination upon their faces as they locked eyes with the opposition.
"We are with you, my King," shouted the head warrior and Angelicas' mate.
"Let's go, Pixie, " I said to her as I took two strides back and then ran forward, jumping high into the air, my body twisting as I descended through the atmosphere and landed among the royal warriors on the front line. I would not allow my brothers' protective instincts to prevent me from fighting with the pack. Angelica and Sophie immediately flanked me along with the other royal witches within the pack.
"We await our Kings' command," I mind-linked them all as I stood with them, my swords extended before me.
