1: The Trouble With The Rule

4430 Words
I fanned my smooth hand to my neck, hoping the slight breeze would ice the hotness I am feeling under the sun. Considering the fact that I am using an umbrella to get the sunlight off my skin, it did not ease the heat of the weather embracing my beautiful body.     I mentally sighed. It's already midday of August 20th, and I've been on the campus for 4 freaking hours. The council shortened of one member, and since I am aiming for a position within that organization, I volunteered. Like how a role model of a Queen Bee that I am, just like how a good girl is supposed to act, I've been kind to offer them my help.    Had I known that I needed to be roaming around the whole school just so that I must find and look for any troublemakers that keeps on ruining the magnanimity and elegance of Liberty University’s walls. For the longest hours that I had walked on this serene campus, I wasn’t able to sight any one of them brave enough to face someone like me.     I've passed countless walls that have been vandalised numerous times but I have never encountered not a single culprit.     I was about to put a scowl on my face but I immediately stopped myself and the irritation and exhaustion that was clear as the ocean few seconds ago, when someone greeted me.     "Hi, Ms. Caitlyn."     "Good morning, Ms. Caitlyn."     "You’re wrong, it’s already afternoon."     "Right," he awkwardly scratched the back of his head.     "Hello," I greeted with a smile.     One Junior and 2 Sophomores are sweetly smiling at me as they wave in greeting. I smiled back as I accept the gifts they’re giving me.     The gifts the Junior gave me is quite heavy, while the gifts of the Sophomore boys’ seems like a compilation of love letters.     "We wish that you’d love these simple gifts."    Just like before, I thanked them and gave them my signature sweet smile, the Queen Bee sweet-killer smile. All of their cheeks went pink as I watch them them happily scurried off when the bell rang. Freshmen’s and Sophomores’ lunch time is over, it’s Juniors’ and Seniors’ turn now.     I groaned loudly as I hug the gifts that has been given to me. I am so darn hungry and thirsty! I wasn’t really allowing myself to take a break due to the stress and fear that someone might see me, and think that I am not taking the job seriously.     I glanced at my wristwatch. It's already 12:15. I guess it wouldn't hurt the council for me to take a break for a short period of time? Besides, I've been walking for so long that I think my feet are gonna be numb from a nonstop 'walkathon'.     I decided to take the 4th Archway, the forbidden route, as my exit. I’d be taking another hour of walk if I choose to go back the other way. The path that I used behind me to round up troublemakers that I thought would be looming around behind the Senior Building. I had to pass through each gates of the building, it’s really a hassle. So, no. I will choose to move forward instead of turning around.     But then again, if I choose this path, my career would be tarnished. What if someone sees me and find out that I am afraid of ghosts?     Wait, who cares?     The 4th Archway is said to be cursed and haunted. Many of the students who try to be brave and have courage always ended up running, like a dog with its tail bent down.     Students say, they can hear a girl crying. Some say a child. But others that went there didn't hear anything.     However, one incident happened. Since 4th Archway is famous for its own story, bullies who chose to make fun of their victims choose this place into recording their victims' cowardice and leave them downhill. Which led the bullies into endangering the victims' lives, and one of them became insane. Out of its sanity. Clearly off the universe.    That’s why no one has ever had the courage to enter this place, ever again, not even those troublemakers who keep on vandalising every wall of the four massive buildings and the sturdy, tall walls made by stones and mortars that are barricading the entirety of this school.    My head started boiling again whilst I try to open the rusty gate of the 4th Archway. Just thinking about those goons giving me a hard time makes my heart boil with anger.     However, upon noticing how ugly the pathway I took, the place was supposed to be filled with numerous beautiful Archways before. With its leaves becoming healthy as ever and growing with small flowers coloured in pink and violet, now it's all brown and rotting.    I had to force my way in, slipping my body through the little space the gate gave me because it won’t even go any farther apart. Thank God I'm sexy and hot. My body probably melted the side of the gate for me to fit in.     I sighed in relief when I am finally inside, still, the irritation never fades. My clothes are already dirty and tainted! I patted those dirt to go away hoping that it won’t latched on my white blouse. These unwanted dirt, always creeping on someone's beautiful life.    When I was done, I look up at the sky before heaving a deep sigh. I didn’t need to use the umbrella anymore. The old and abandoned building is already is already blocking the sunlight to my left.     Now that I am looking up at the sky, I couldn't help but stare at the old, rusty building.     It’s a total waste to just leave these buildings that seemed to be very strong and could accompany another amount of students if ever the school wanted to increase the slots they’d be giving during enrollment period. If only the school paid attention to these, it would be a total makeover and the campus would be even more beautiful.    After awhile, I shrugged my shoulders. Oh well, it's not my problem anymore. Why should I stress my beautiful self out to something that's not even my problem to begin with?     I was about to start walking when I heard scratches just around the right corner of the dark building. I stared at an alleyway. Just the sight of it, it would pass as a hiding place of the delinquents of this school.     I quietly tiptoed towards that direction. As I near the thick and strong pillar of the building, I immediately hid myself. I saw a shadow moving. A couple of shadows to be exact thanks to the medium sized hole of the broken wall.    Just from standing here I could here the hissing of spray paints. I smiled wickedly as I fished the walkie-talkie inside my pink shoulder bag. Oh someone's gonna get busted. I minimised its volume first before clicking a button.     "What's your status, Osprey? Over," the President of the Student Council seriously asked.    I rolled my eyes just hearing the nonsensical codename he has given me. Why should he give me one when my mother gave me a real name that anyone could call me? Is it that hard for Student Council members to call each other by their names? Besides, my name is so beautiful and everyone loves it, and he’s just calling me, Osprey? Wha am I, a bird? Tss!    I silently sighed controlling my irritation, enough to not be heard from the other line. I should not show bad behaviour or else I will lose my chance on winning the election for next year. Besides, it’s only for today. Once I become the president, I'd definitely change their protocols and most of the Council's rules.     "Spotted some students," I answered.     "Still have the body cam? Over," is it just me or I sense boredom in his voice?     "Yup."     "Proceed to protocol. Over," and he cut our line.     I angrily looked at the talkie. So much for giving me this little machine when he couldn't even tell me the complete details of what I must do. Argh! I will definitely change the rules. Certainly.    Again, I heaved a sigh before putting the talkie inside my cute bag. To think I was even attracted to that President, I was considering the idea of flirting with him, but I lost my interest in him. Annoyed, I got out of my hiding place but I stopped abruptly. The delinquents are all standing while spray-painting, with their backs turned to me. Why didn’t I noticed their footsteps? The audacity of them! However, it’s fortunate that they left that alleyway. I won’t be able to catch them if they try to escape. It’s too tight there, it’d be difficult to run. Also, I don’t know the area’s blueprint, but I know that these delinquents won’t have a hard time escaping without my body cam getting a glimpse of them.     There are 5 guys and 2 girls, and all of them are wearing line-up outfits. Black hoodies with a logo of an Osprey with its head being sideways and two white small palm leaves circling it.     I checked my body cam, making sure that it's on and still working. I wonder if this is on live or just recorded? Because if it's recorded, they could surround me and take it away. Mission failed for me.     But they wouldn't notice it, probably, because it is clipped inside my shoulder bag. And another thing, I’m not that stupid to inform them about it. Now I just have to trick the camera into angling it right so that I could successfully capture their faces. I've never been good with familiarity of people's faces. I am thankful that the Council thought of giving me this piece.     I gripped my bag firmly, tilting it upwards with the right amount of its supposed angle, before I lightly scratch off the cracked cement to my left.    I threw it towards them and it landed on the wall that they’d want to paint on. All of them harshly turned towards me and shock is written all over their faces. I gave them a smirk. Of course, who wouldn’t be surprised with my beauty?     "C-Caitlyn," the guy in the middle stammered as his cheeks went pink.     The two boys on his left glanced down with their ears turning red while the other two at his right became embarrassed to be caught by their Queen. The two girls just stared at me as if this was just normal like all the other days they experienced.    I put out the Detention Slip that’s inside the pocket of my skirt and showed it to them.     "Detention, now," I said in a firm voice.    The five boys gulped in uneasiness while the remaining girls rolled their eyes at me. I arched a brow. How dare they. Who do they think they are? I am their Queen, no one dares to insult me like how they did seconds ago.    I frowned in annoyance as I put out my pen and wrote on the Suggestion section of the slip.     'Girls must clean all the Boys' bathroom, including the abandoned buildings' bathrooms while the rest remains in Library duty.'    I handed the slip to them with lips pursed as I stare each of the boys straight in the eyes.     "Don't make me repeat myself," I said warning them with my hand on my waist.     The girl with hooded eyes at the far right scoffed. "Let's just go, it's not like we've never escaped the Council's minions."    Minions? A beautiful minion, you say.     I saw how the other girl who has round eyes nudged her fellows in persuading them to escape from me, but the boys just stood still. The boys couldn’t choose on whether to escape just the usual, or obey their Queen.     When I stared at the guy who's in the middle, I seductively bit my lip. I chose him because he looks so easy. His stance and strong impression is telling me that his comrades follow and obey his orders.    His Adam’s apple bobbled up and down, and the coldness in his eyes sparkled. The moment his eyes changed, I know that he took the bait. Even when I glanced at the remaining boys, they too have that sparkle in their eyes.     I have awoken the beast peacefully sleeping within them a few seconds ago.    He cleared his throat. "W-we should just take the slip," mukhang nahihirapan pa itong huminga ng maayos.     "Yeah. We should," the boy with a dark green necktie seconded while the rest just nodded, except for the girls who had their jaws dropped to their feet.     I am definitely the beautiful minion.     *.*.*     "Well done Ms. Montero. If you keep this up, you'd definitely achieve your dream on becoming the Valedictorian of your batch," nakangiting bati sa akin ni Mr. Hennigan, the Principal of the High School Department. Suddenly his eyebrows frowned. "I really thought you'd be a conniving woman like how the Eagle Press-con states that you are. You have definitely proven me wrong," he offered me his hand to shake it, and I gladly took it.    I easily controlled the annoyance that almost escaped my face. If I wasn’t in a good mood, I would unfortunately prove to Mr. Hennigan about what the Eagle Press-con wrote lies about me.     Eagle Press-con is the school's newspaper. They are the ones who report and publish everyday’s gossips instead of interesting school news about Liberty University’s achievements, or the school’s rival.     And because I am the Queen Bee, their articles are filled with my images and information. Everyday Cheesepaper, Weekly Cheesepapers, Monthly Cheesepapers, Yearly Cheesepapers, Summer Spices, Valentine Cheesiness, Eagle Fool's Day, November Weekly, Christmas Iciness at Christmas Hotness. Name it. My personal life almost covered the entire paper.     The very reason why I have so many haters is because of the Eagle Press-con. They are supposed to update us about our school, but because of the title of their Club, they decided to be seriously the Eagle. Now they have become, literally, an Eagle's eye.    They’ve also been noticed as one of the greatest broadcasting clubs in obtaining the deepest, darkest secrets of any person they’d want to feature in their gossip. They have become a world class spy and was given a name entitled; Eagle Paparazzi.     The sad thing about them having that privilege was because of the fact that they only land their eyes on someone's interesting and perfect life. Too much perfection for their eyes is a great opportunity to break that person apart.     But then again, I am enjoying the life of a celebrity. People can bash me whenever they want, but they can never succeed on breaking me. Not even that stupid Press-con.     "Caitlyn," I snapped out of my reverie when Mr. Hennigan called me.    Confusion is plastered on his face as he hands me a document. At first I was staring at it, just like how the Principal is curiously staring at me as to how could a Queen Bee be out of this world for a minute when I always hated those people who are constantly entering their own world?     If he didn’t use the document to lightly smack my head, I would’ve been staring at it for how many minutes. I realized that I was so out of myself today because I tried putting the document inside my really small shoulder bag. How embarrassing! It’s really silly me.     I heard Mr. Hennigan chuckled before I saw him leaned on his chair.     "The great bug of the school had surprisingly spaced out during an important conversation about her duties of being a promising Valedictorian student," said by him as he shook his head.     Wait, he was telling me details about that?! And I wasn’t even paying any attention? How stupid of me!     I was about to speak when he gestured me to stop. "Let's talk about it some other time. I don’t want to discuss it with a person that might mentally blacked out again," Mr. Hennigan chuckled.    If I wasn’t that hungry, I’d be persuading and forcing him to tell me everything. But I can’t right now, my stomach’s already growling. I love my body too well. I decided to stand up and slowly walk out of his room.    I feel like a cloud as my body and mind feels like floating. Someone smacked my arms right after I got outside the his office.     I glared at the culprit. Instead of apologizing, she just laughed it off before dragging me towards the stairs.     "Chill, okay? It's not as if you’re still not used to me," Talulah giggled as she tried to remind me of every physical things she does with me and Fawn. She clung to my arm. The arm she smacked that I thought it’s becoming numb because of how strong her strength was.    Even though I wanted to scold her, I choose to be silent and let it slip my mind. I am so darn hungry, and I tend to have a really bad breath when this time comes. They’d laugh again if they caught a whiff of my breath’s scent.    Besides, we're walking in this elegant medieval corridor. There are medium sized chandeliers hanged on the ceiling 20 feet away from one another. The walls are made of stones and mortars, giving it a dignified glance of a sturdy and vigorous built, just like how the school wanted it to be. Marbled tiles and shiny mahogany ceilings are what finishes the classical look of the school's interior.    We are not allowed to create noises, nor laugh. The teachers behind every door as we walked pass them might give us Detention Slip. We're in the territory of the Faculty building of both High School and College Department. I don't want to stain my image more because of those delinquents and my naughty friends.    I rolled my eyes at Fawn who’s grinning right after I saw her standing at the foot of the staircase. It may look rude and unfriendly to others, but both of these girls are used to seeing me like this.     Ugh. These retards.    I decided to walk ahead of them. The faculty building is like a mini castle with a double staircase. When you reach the foot of the staircase, the grand double-doors will greet you. It serves as the entrance and exit of the building.    I crossed my arms. Though I’m in a bad mood, I still managed to put a smile and thanked the teo guards standing outside the building. Guarding the door. Eagle Press-con has eyes everywhere. I’m pretty sure I am being followed right now. I mentally sighed. This is one of the disadvantages of being a Queenbee. Just a little movement or interaction with others, could give give them ideas for their next article.     "Caitlyn wait up!", I didn’t paid attention to Talulah.    I am really hungry and I don’t want any disturbance. I turned a left and decided to walk on the pebbled pathway, in which, the leaves of the trees are shielding me from the sun on both sides. The route leads me to the cafeteria. For sure, Juniors crowded the place and only a few Seniors would be there.    I was right about everything as soon as we arrived. Most of the Junior boys are already lining up outside the entrance of the place. A smirk escaped my lips when I witnessed the expressions of the Senior girls changed as they watch what happens next. Only a few girls that are with them. All of them are gripping anxiously to their covered gifts that has a beautiful picture of mine, as if their lives depended on it.    I didn’t mind those girls sitting on the lounges just outside the cafeteria while glaring at their boyfriends, boy best friends, girlfriends, girl best friends or anyone. I don't care. Clearly, they did not like the sight of it. And I don’t really care if they give me dagger glares as I walked past the boys and girls. I stopped just outside the entrance of the cafeteria.     And just like before, one by one, boys gave me their gifts as I sweetly smiled at them. Just like before, I patiently waited for this to end. Each waited for their turn. Their determination in supporting me as their Queenbee gives me overwhelming joy. ”That banner is rocking the haters’ core,” Fawn whispered. I hid the grin showing off on my face through my sweet smile. I’ve seen the banner. Imprinted on it was a picture of me wearing a golden crown that I've won last year's Junior and Senior's Prom. A message was beside it, stating that I would definitely get that Presidential position in the Student Council of Liberty University.    I continued accepting their gifts, not paying any attention to the other students who are continuously murmuring and gossiping about me. Though this gesture of my supporters, it’s giving me a hard time. The more the gifts piled up in front of my face, the more it gets heavy. And add my hunger, it’s giving me a headache! How will I get these home? Even though I am starving, I patiently waited for everything to come to a stop.    Fortunately, someone volunteered to help because both Talulah and Fawn seemed like they won’t give me a hand any minute. My supporters are so sweet than my friends!    Mostly boys initiated to help.  "I'm proud to be your friend," I glanced at Talulah jokingly wiping off an invisible tear.     "How the odds are forever in your favor," Fawn jokingly said in a firm British accent.    I laughed at their remark. "Shouldn’t both of you start helping me? Look at them, it’s starting to get heavy on their hands." Using my lips, I pointed the guys that’s starting to pile up because of the many gifts that keeps on coming. Thank God my friends decided to escort the boys towards the parking lot.    I can still feel the simultaneous glare of the girls that was left alone in the cafeteria, but I couldn't care less when a hater of mine shouted something at me.    It wasn’t clear to my hearing because like I said, I couldn't care less.    As soon as everyone gave their gifts to me, the remaining five boys that are with me followed me. There’s a school bus waiting for their arrival, and the five guys that my friends escorted are inside. They will be using it as their mode of transport while following me to the house. My car‘s trunk, backseat, and passenger seat was filled with gifts. So I had to use my friends’ cars because there are still gifts left.     As soon as everything’s put in place, I faced them.     "Thank you," I gave a peck on the Junior guy’s cheek who put the last gift inside Talulah's car.    He went brightly pink right before he started running towards the school bus, along with the still stunned guys who had witnessed everything. The three of us shook our heads as we laughed at their cuteness.     ”Caitlyn Montero, it really does something, huh?" Fawn commented.     "How to be you, beshy?"    I glanced at Talulah. "That's definitely a secret," I blew a kiss to her right before I closed her car's compartment.    My eyes landed on the masculine back of a guy standing beside his car. He was wearing a dark gray shirt that fits his body and a black cap over his head. He was fixing it, letting us have a good view of his hard muscles that's being effortlessly flexed by him.     "Oh my God, is that Heath Evans?!", Fawn whispered. If she wasn’t embarrassed enough, Fawn would be shrieking like a crazy fan girl, not minding if she accidentally caught the guy's attention.     "He's back? Oh my God he's back. Heath Evans is back!", and both of them squealed in delight.    These girls seemed to have a lot of energy. Right. Boys do that to them, specifically if it’s the one they like. These girls are restless. I am getting caught up with their shoving each other. I harshly pulled the two away.     "What's your problem?", I stared at Fawn who looked pretty annoyed. I might’ve accidentally scratched her flawless skin. My bad.     "Sorry," I apologized before glancing at the guy they’d been squealing about, who’s already busy with his phone. Though it wasn’t my intention, I was completely mesmerized with his beauty even if I could only see the other side of his face. "But he's my problem."     "And why is that?", Talulah asked.     "Because he's back.”     "Meaning?", Fawn asked.     "The rule is about to have a big tremor," I said to them.     "What do you mean exactly, Caitlyn? We can’t comprehend properly if you speak in riddles," Fawn fixed her hair.    I glared at the guy who's still busy checking on his phone. "The only thing that keeps the Rule being tainted is because of a demon constantly spreading havoc beyond the capability of this dainty hands of mine," I explained.    Both of them went silent, maybe they’d finally understood that Heath’s comeback would be a disaster for my reputation since delinquents follows him. And 'oh' was the only word they could utter to my response. Which reminds me, did Mr. Hennigan just called me a bug?
