Ava's POV :
Blond hair framed his features strands falling messily across his forehead. His amber eyes burned with a fierce, commanding light.
For a brief moment everything around me faded away.
He looked like a prince.
No,,,he felt like one.
The boy stepped forward and pressed his sword against the enemy’s throat stopping just short of cutting skin.
The man froze completely trembling so violently I could see his fear from where I stood.
Cold and unyielding the boy spoke
“Who sent you here? Speak, or I’ll separate your head from your body right now.”
The man shook terror written into every breath, but still he said nothing.
Something dark flashed in the boy’s eyes.
Without mercy he struck.
The blade slashed through both of the man’s legs and one arm in a single brutal motion.
The man collapsed to the ground screaming unable to stand unable to escape.
I barely registered the sound.
All I could see was the blood, still pouring from the boy’s wounded hand.
Before fear could stop me my body moved on its own.
I rushed to him and grabbed his arm gently but firmly.
My hands were shaking so badly I could hardly think. I reached up and pulled the twilly scarf from my hair unraveling it quickly.Wrapping it tightly around his wound,I tied it as best as I could desperate to stop the bleeding.
“Please… hold still,” I whispered, my voice trembling.
He looked down at me in surprise.
I could feel my hands shaking as I finished tying the cloth.
My face felt pale my heart racing but I didn’t stop. I couldn’t.
For a moment he simply stared at me.
I thought she was a thief he seemed to think.
I held onto her so she wouldn’t run away.In this condition she could have escaped easily… yet she stayed.
She’s caring for me.
Suddenly, the sound of armored footsteps broke the moment.
Several royal guards rushed into the area.
Seeing them fear clenched my chest even tighter. My fingers instinctively tightened around the scarf tied to his arm.
One of the guards hurried forward and spoke urgently,
“Prince Warren”,are you alright?”
Prince…?
My breath caught.
Prince Warren?
I froze completely.
I had heard that name before,Albert had spoken of him.
The kind prince loved by the people.
Slowly,I lifted my eyes to look at the boy again.
Fear.
Shock.
Disbelief.
All of it crashed into me at once.
He was the prince.
Prince Warren turned calmly to the man standing beside him his presence steady despite the blood staining his arm.
“I’m fine,” he said evenly. “Take this man to the dungeon.
Make him speak, find out who sent him. If he refuses…” His voice hardened.“Cut off his head.”
The man beside him was his right hand man 'Hadrex'.
With a sharp glance Hadrex signaled the other guards. They immediately moved seizing the remaining enemies and dragging them away toward the castle dungeons.
I stood there trembling.
My scarf was wrapped around the arm of a prince.
And my life once again had changed without warning.
_______
Hadrex rushed to Prince Warren the moment he noticed the deep gash on his hand.
Blood stained the prince’s glove and panic flashed across Hadrex’s face.
“Prince Warren,” he asked urgently, “are you truly alright?”
“I’m fine,” the prince replied calmly, as if the pain meant nothing to him. “Don’t worry so much.”
Then his gaze shifted, straight to me.
“Girl,” he asked, his voice steady but sharp,“where do you live? And how did you find the courage to do something like this here?”
My heart skipped a beat.I looked at him fear tightening my chest.
Words refused to come. When I stayed silent his brows drew together slightly his expression hardening.
That only made my fear worse.
“I… I live…” I stammered my voice trembling.
“I mean…”
Before I could finish Hadrex stepped forward.
“I don’t recall ever seeing her here before,” he said.
His eyes swept over me from head to toe studying my torn dress and unfamiliar appearance.
His brows furrowed deeper as if I were some kind of puzzle he didn’t like.
Just as he was about to say more Prince Warren interrupted him.
“Looking at you,” the prince said slowly,“it doesn’t seem like you belong to this place. And judging by your clothes it’s clear you came from somewhere else.
No one here has ever seen clothing like this.”
His words struck me deeply but they also gave me courage.
