"Vanessa!!!" I yelled, my voice raw, desperation ripping through me as I watched her disappear. My heart hammered against my chest, my mind spinning with the worst possible scenarios. I had to get to her—I had to stop whatever was coming.
The guards surrounded me, their hands gripping at me like chains. There were so many of them, pulling me back, trying to keep me away from her. I could feel my blood boiling in my veins, pulsing with an anger so fierce it drowned out every rational thought. They were in my way. They were keeping me from her.
