Eli The operation went exactly according to plan. Which should have been reassuring. Instead, it wasn't. I stood inside the command center reviewing the final reports while soldiers moved around me. Radios crackled. Screens flashed. Personnel exchanged updates. Everything functioned with the precision I'd spent years demanding. Efficient. Organized. Controlled. The way military operations should be. The mission had been successful. No casualties. No unexpected complications. No mistakes. Objectively, it was a good day. Yet for some reason, I felt none of the satisfaction I normally would have. I stared at the report in my hands. Read the same paragraph three times. Retained none of it. Annoying. Very annoying.
