Reaching the hospital i park my jeep in staff parking before making my way to the locker room, starting my day in the minors. I'm excited to be back working at the hospital, signing in and throwing my stuff in a locker I'm ready to start but as I predicted it's slowly in the morning which I don't mind as I have the chance to get to know a couple of staff members before I'm thrown into work, pulling up at the laptop I login in when there a call though about a crash on the motorway. Pulling away from the laptop I get ready for the victims  when a teenage comes in holding his shoulder, I take the patient and head to room two. Getting an x-ray on the shoulder and collar bone it looks like the shoulder come out it's socket, flashing a flash light in the boys eyes I check the pupils before giving him some gas and air ready to pop it back into place. It's definitely going to hurt but I'm hoping he takes enough gas and air to not feel it.  Patient by patient It's been a busy afternoon, my first day back at the hospital has been fun, I have missed having a laugh with the nurses, and the patient, it's always fun when they have a laugh with you. Sitting in the cafeteria I look out the window to see a couple of cancer patient sitting on the bench looking at a pond, it's always good for them to get fresh air but my attention it caught in front of me when a little girl starts coughing non stop, I quickly jump to me feet  "What's happening? She was fine a minute ago?" I hear her parents say as I can see a piece of food blocking her air pipes, not taking the risk of wanting to break a rib I tap a little hard on the black hoping it come out after a couple attempt, after trying one more the little throws up the chuck of food, I start to hold her hair back as she spits the food out. Finishing up spiting it out I let go of the little girl and she runs to her parents side  "Oh god, thank you. Thank you" i hear the mother say but I just nod my head and head back to my seat to finish my food before I finish the shift, I only have a couple of hours left which hope goes by rather quickly. Walking back to my station I walk past the main entrance grabbing a cup of water when I overhear a boy shot in the stomach, I stop where I am. I didn't think people still shot each other anymore walking to the station  "I'll take the boy, I'm always dealing with shot g*n wounds victim I say as I put my gloves over my hands ready for when the kid is being bought in, as I'm wait a doctor walks to my side  "Guess I'm working with you solider, I'm doctor Steven" I hear him say smiling, it's not a lie that everyone knows I'm a solider as i have come in my uniform a couple of times to check on my patient but I rather keep it on the low "It's Laura, nice to meet you" I return as we wait for the boy to be bought in, as the doctor about to open his mouth again the boy come rushing though the door and both myself and dr. Steven are by the bed taking over "19 year old male, head injury and shot in the mid stomach. Flatline on the way here" the ambulance say, handing over with the information to doctor Steven while I'm grabbing the trolley, the young male starts to crash again and stops breathing with blood coming out the mouth, I don't think instead I climbs on the bed positioning myself correctly to get a better point to start CPR with myself being a short arse I had to get on top "He's losing too much blood" i shouts at another doctor, while doctor Steven pushes the trolley into surgery, its takes just over a minute to get him into a room and a second to get a pipe into the lungs to get a breathing machine connected as they start the operation, I let doctor Steven take the lead, with him having the most educated training. A nervous 6 hours and the operation is done, the team transfer the boy to ICU while I cleans myself up before I and doctor Steven search for the boys parents.  "Mr and Mrs Higgins" I says looking at two adults crying in a corner as we stand there the parents look up, wiping away the tears, I hands them some tissues from the front desk "Hi, I'm Andrew doctor Steven along with nurse Laura, I'm very please to say we got him into theatre and out with no problems. He's in the ICU, once he settled, we will come and collect you" doctor Steven says very pleased with himself as it was touch and go "Thank you very much" mr and Mrs Higgins say shaking both our hands, I give them a warm smile before walking away with doctor Steven. I have dealt with bullet wounds all the time and most of them make it depending on where they are shot  Walking into the locker room I didn't think I'll be dealing with bullet wounds not while I'm home but I guess I was wrong, this is a good town so why are young children getting shot. Putting my head in my hands I can't help but think about the most recent bullet wound I had when I was on tour, it ripped though and though his upper shoulder, he was lucky it missed the vital artery. Not paying attention to my surroundings doctor Steven takes a seat next to me patting my shoulder  "Don't overthink it, he's a fighter with the best of doctor and nurse by his side" I hear him trying to cheer me up, I pull my head from my hands and look at him giving him a force smile  "I know, I just didn't think I'll be treating bullet wounds in my hometown. Just brings memories back I guess" I respond standing up trying to sort the right arse trousers they gave me which I'm starting to hate and doctor Steven has noticed as well  "They always give the wrong sizes out, let's hope they don't rip when your with a patient" he says walking off laughing at my misery but I shake my head, I have another pair in my locker thankful or it would of been a problem.  Finishing my first shift I head to the boys room to check on him before I leave, I have been shot so I know how it feels and I'll tell you it hurts like a b***h. Looking in the window I check his vitals before walking around ready to climb into my own bed and now get out till my next shift. Lucky me I only got three shifts this week spreed out so I can enjoy my time being home. And right now the bed is calling my name.
