Chapter Four: Preparing For Her Journey

The night before her departure, Madison spent it packing her suitcase for the trip ahead. She knew she was only going for a week, but not knowing the supplies that would be available to her, she wanted to take everything... however she knew that that wasn't practical. So she managed to fit her belongings into one very large bag. She packed things that were lightweight, breathable, and wouldn't wrinkle. She debated about bringing a swimsuit. They were going to a bunch of islands, but then again, she wasn't going for pleasure. Still...she decided that she would pack one, just in case. You never know when it would come in handy, she thought!

"Do you want some help, Mama," her daughter came into her room and sat on the closet floor next to her?

"Thanks Morgan, I think that I'm just about all set now though," Madison leaned over and hugged her daughter. "I'm going to miss you so much," Madison's told her baby girl!

"I'm going to miss you too! I wish I was going with you," Morgan made it known!

"I know...but you have school. One day you can come on one with me, I promise," Madison made a deal. “We will be the best dynamic duo,” she grabbed her daughter’s hand and squeezed it gently.

"Okay," she said in acceptance. Sure, she was annoyed, but she knew it had to be this way. She knew her mom would return soon and she’d fill her in on all her great adventures.

Just then, her Son Parker came into the room."Do you want some help carrying your bag downstairs, Mom," he asked thoughtfully?

"You are too good to me," she smiled up at him. He was such a good boy. She was so very proud of both of her kids. She couldn’t ask for better.

She reached out and handed him her rather large bag with appreciation.

"You got rocks in here Mom," he joked?

"Hey...You should be proud that I was able to get a week's worth of essentials into that one bag," his mother joked back!

"Good job, Mom," he mocked her a little!

"What am I going to do without you," she asked as she ran her fingers through his hair, messing up the neatly combed look that he had going on?

"I'm sure you'll manage, Mom," he said sarcastically!

"Well don't grow up too much, okay now," she asked? "You better not be married and living on your own by the time that I get back," she teased him!

"Oh Mom! Girls are just a distraction," he stated. Who needs them?"

"One day, Parker... you'll feel very different," Madison told him, as the two walked down the stairs together!

She thought of a time too, when she felt the same about boys. She had her whole life ahead of her and boys just complicated things. That was, until Benny. He complicated things too, but it was so worth it!

"Well...maybe, but hopefully not until after college," he said coyly and interrupting her memory lane.

"Agreed," she gave him a big hug, as he left her bag by the door.

That evening, Madison was lying in bed and watching television. Dinner had been finished for hours and the kids were in their rooms preparing for bed. Avery had to work late today.

Avery looked at her big empty bed no and wished be had been with her. It was kind of upsetting that he had to miss her last dinner at home right before she left for her relief mission, but she understood that he worked super hard. She appreciated that about him. He had been texting her for hours apologizing, and explaining that he would make it up to her once he got home.

About 8:30 pm, Avery finally rolled into the house after his long day of work. He strolled upstairs and into their bedroom looking as handsome as ever. His gray suit with his teal tie stood out against his olive skin, and salt and pepper colored hair.

She had always admired her husband's appearance. He had a neatly groomed goatee, which made her want to do nothing more than to devour him practically every time she looked at him. However tonight, she would play hard to get...a little anyway, she thought! It was a coy cat and mouse type of game.

"Hi Sweetheart," he smiled at her with both hands behind his back! "I missed you!”

Madison shrugged her shoulders.

“I'm sorry I had to work so late tonight, of all nights," Avery apologized to her!

"I understand," she said cooley.

"Are you upset with me, Baby," he came closer to the bed where she was sprawled out?

"I brought you something," Avery played along. "Do you want it," he asked casually?

Avery pulled his hands from behind his back with both palms closed. "Pick one" he played further, now sitting on the bed beside her!

Madison pointed to his left hand. “That one!”

Avery smiled and opened it up for her. Inside his hand was a very small piece of paper folded up, so small that he had to hold it quite delicately.

Madison smirked and took the tiny golden paper from his hands. She then gently opened it and read what was inside:

‘My Dearest Madison,

Because you are going halfway around the world, I want you to know that you are my whole world! Use this token of my love, and you'll always find your way back to me! -Avery’

Madison looked at him a little confused. Although the note was beautiful and thoughtful, she didn't quite know what it meant.

She c****d her head at him in hopes that he would divulge further. Thankfully, for Madison, he did and she didn’t have to question his kind note.

Avery pulled his hands once again from behind his back and held out his other hand.

Madison played along and pointed for him to open it the opposite hand as last time.

Avery slowly opened his palm for her to see. Inside was a beautiful round Platinum locket. The outside was encased with diamonds enclosing around a beautiful compass.

Madison was shocked at the beautiful trinket. She gave him a big appreciative smile and then hugged him before she even opened it up.

“Look in side, My Love!”

When she opened the inside, on one side she found a photo of Avery and the kids, and on the other side, it had a shiny glass mirror to reflect off the photo. It was small and dainty, but it was perfect, in its own right. She loved it and she loved his thoughtfulness.

"It's so beautiful, Babe," she admired the gift! “Thank you.”

Madison teared up a little at the kind gesture.

"I hope it brings you peace on your journey, and if need be, helps you find your way back home to me," he said lovingly!

Avery wiped the tear away that had now formed on his wife’s flawless face.

In that moment, Madison realized just how much she would miss her man. He was her rock and her biggest supporter in all her dreams, never questioning them, but always encouraging her to reach for the stars.

"You are so thoughtful! I absolutely love it," Madison leaned in and kissed him passionately to show her appreciation!

"Well...you will have your Old Flame on this trip," Avery joked! "He may decide that he wants to keep you for himself," Avery joked again! “You will need to find your way back home to us somehow!”

Madison had told Avery right off about seeing Benjamin! Avery though, happened to be a very secure man, and was confident in the relationship that he had with his wife. For that reason, it didn't bother him at all that the two would be working together for the next week. He trusted her.

Madison pushed him a little, with a big smile on her face. "Hahahahaha... very funny," she kissed him again!

Avery then got up from the bed and locked the bedroom door. He began stripping out of his suit and tie.

"I have to make tonight extra special, My Love, since we won't be seeing each other for a little while," Avery stated in his sexiest voice!
