Jacob looked at me in shock, a flicker of immense panic in his eyes. I forced a smile at him and said through gritted teeth, "Damn, that hurts!" After my words faded, the pain overwhelmed me, and I blacked out, unaware of what happened next. When I woke up, three days had passed. The first news I received was that my parents had grounded me. I didn't do anything wrong; I just took a knife for someone. Why should I be grounded?! My protests were futile, and Evelyn even stationed Daniel outside my door to prevent me from sneaking out.
