Eve's heart raced within her chest as she hurried through the thick woods. Her breathing was heavy and irregular, and her legs ached from the exertion. Tree branches lashed against her skin, leaving faint marks behind. Fear propelled her onward, pushing her to create as much distance as possible between herself and the clutches of her cruel uncle.
For years, Eve had endured a life of misery and abuse under her uncle's care. After the tragic death of her parents, he had taken her in, making false promises of providing for her. However, his true nature soon emerged—a heartless and abusive man who saw her only as a tool to exploit her inheritance.
As she sprinted through the underbrush, thoughts of a life free from her uncle's grasp raced through Eve's mind. The wind whispered through the trees, encouraging her and offering a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. Stories of the Blue Moon Pack, a harmonious community of werewolves who coexisted with the forest, had reached her ears. Perhaps they could offer her sanctuary, a place where she could finally find freedom.
Suddenly, a voice interrupted her thoughts, causing her to halt abruptly.
"Are you lost, young one?"
Caught off guard, Eve spun around to find a woman standing before her. The woman wore a gentle smile, her eyes filled with warmth and concern. While her appearance seemed harmless, Eve had learned to be cautious of strangers, especially those who appeared too good to be true.
"I... I'm just taking a walk," Eve stammered, her voice trembling. "I'm not lost."
The woman's smile widened. "Of course, dear. However, the forest can be dangerous for a young girl like you. Let me assist you in finding your way back."
Though suspicion flooded Eve's heart, desperation compelled her to take a chance. "Fine," she conceded, her voice barely audible. "But no tricks. I've had enough of that."
The woman nodded, her smile unwavering. "No tricks, I promise. My name is Helen. What's yours?"
"Eve," she replied softly. "My name is Eve."
Helen extended her hand, and after a moment's hesitation, Eve reluctantly accepted it. The woman's grip was firm, offering a sense of reassurance. They embarked on their journey, their steps falling into the rhythm as Eve cautiously allowed herself to place trust in this stranger.
As they ventured deeper into the forest, Eve couldn't help but notice the serenity that enveloped her. The air felt invigorating, carrying the soothing scents of pine and damp earth, calming her troubled soul. Birds chirped, their songs blending with the rustling leaves. It seemed as though the forest itself was welcoming her with open arms.
"How did you locate me?" Eve finally inquired, breaking the silence that had settled between them.
Helen's smile remained unwavering. "I've been observing you for a while, Eve. Your determination, your spirit—it fascinated me. And when the opportunity presented itself, I knew I had to step in."
Eve's eyes widened. "You've been watching me? Why?"
Helen's gaze softened. "Because I understand what you've endured, Eve. The cruelty of your uncle, the torment you've suffered—it's unjust. No one should have to endure such pain."
A lump formed in Eve's throat, and tears welled up in her eyes. For the first time in a long while, she felt understood. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "I thought I was completely alone."
Helen gently squeezed Eve's hand, offering reassurance. "You're not alone anymore, Eve. I want to assist you in finding a safe and free place, a fresh start."
Eve's heart swelled with gratitude and hope. The notion of escaping her past and discovering a community that could provide solace and acceptance seemed like an impossible dream. Yet, Helen's words resonated deep within her, rekindling a flicker of courage she thought she had lost.
As they walked, Eve couldn't help but notice the subtle transformations in their surroundings. The forest grew denser, with towering trees above them. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a gentle glow on the path ahead. Finally, they entered a small clearing, where rustic cabins nestled among the trees.
Eve's eyes widened with wonder as she took in the scene. It was a refuge, a concealed sanctuary far removed from the outside world. The air carried a sense of belonging, and the distant melodies of birds filled the atmosphere.
Helen gestured towards the cabins. "Welcome to my secluded haven away from the forest's evils, Eve. This will be your temporary home, at least for now."
Eve's heart skipped a beat as she absorbed the weight of Helen's words. She had discovered it—the place she had been searching for, where she could finally find peace and rebuild her shattered life. Excitement mingled with apprehension as she followed Helen toward the cabins.
As they approached the house, Eve began to feel a tingling sensation in her body, as if her wolf instincts were stirring. She paused for a moment, gazing at Helen once again.
"What's wrong, young one?" Helen asked, showing kindness. Eve growled slightly, instinctively catching the scent of her aunt nearby.
"She is here," Eve stated, fear creeping through her. She had just escaped from one predator, but it seemed she couldn't Evede another.
"Who is present?" Helen inquired, assuming a defensive stance.
Eve paused to consider. "I have been observing you for some time," Helen stated. Eve glared back at Helen, growling once more.
"Relax, girl. I would never harm you," Helen assured.
"That's what you would say, Susan," Eve retorted, using Helen's real name.
Susan chuckled, followed by a boisterous laugh, which sent a shiver down Eve's spine. Susan was determined to destroy Eve's life.
"You're becoming a stronger wolf, Eve. I can see that. Let's see how well you fare in battle," Susan challenged, immediately launching an attack. However, Eve's course was altered by a push from her side.
Eve surveyed the surroundings, trying to ascertain what had aided her. A young man with a resilient exterior emerged from the shadows and approached Susan. Eve instinctively drew closer to him, seeking refuge.
"Well, well, well... Isn't it Ethan, the infamous and pitiful Alpha?" Susan sneered.
"Says the one who just took a minor hit," the young man retorted. Eve was captivated by his strength. He remained unfazed by the blow he dealt, while she was sent flying a great distance.
Susan dashed forward in a zigzag pattern, extending her fist to strike him. Calmly, he held her fist, effortlessly breaking her hand.
"Argghh…" Susan screamed, falling backward. "You son of a b***h," she groaned, clutching her injured hand in agony.
"She's injured," Eve noted, and the young man smiled graciously.
"That was the purpose of this entire fight," he explained. "Let's leave this place. You need assistance." He added, and Eve nodded, following him. Without any reason, Eve felt safer with him than she had ever felt with Helen. It was more than just him saving her; she felt a sense of peace beside him.
