Chapter 10: Ostracized

When Kenneth came out of his room, he intended to go to the pantry to make coffee because he felt his head was quite dizzy after learning what he had to do today, not to mention he had to think about people who did not like him.

Not only that, Kenneth could even hear people starting to whisper while openly looking at him. Kenneth, who realized that only sighed softly and chose to ignore them.

“I knew Ramona wouldn’t stay silent,” Kenneth muttered softly, not really caring about the whispers and continued his steps towards the pantry to make coffee as planned.

Only for Kenneth to run into Peter who had previously made trouble with him. Seeing that there was a possibility that a commotion would arise if he entered the pantry, Kenneth decided to turn around and return to his room.

However, his steps stopped when he heard a voice calling him. There was just one listen, and Kenneth already knew who was calling him.

“Oh my, look who’s here! Mr. CEO, come in; why are you leaving like that?” Peter said with a smirk on his face.

Kenneth rolled his eyes, turned his body back towards the pantry, and walked inside. After being caught like this, Kenneth couldn’t just go back.

“It turns out you guys are here.” Kenneth said briefly and chose to walk towards the counter and start making his own coffee.

And again Kenneth heard the people who were with Peter whispering and giggling while staring at his back. Their voices were too strong to be whispered and Kenneth could clearly hear what they were saying.

“Is it true that he used to be our Janitor?”

“How can he be here as CEO? Wouldn’t our company’s good name be tainted if someone like him became CEO?”

“Not only that, I’m sure our division will be very busy because an incompetent person like him is the CEO!”

“It’s a pity that Mr. Jack has to give in for someone like him.”

Kenneth just kept quiet, pretending not to hear what they were saying. After finishing making his coffee, Kenneth decided to return to his room because there were still many things he had to learn.

Given that Kenneth had often been pranked and humiliated by these workers who felt superior to him, he realized that they might still think that they could treat him like before.

So even though Kenneth’s face looked flat and unmoved, he was still wary as he passed Peter and his three friends.

As Kenneth slowly walked ahead of them with a cup of coffee in his hand, the corner of his eye caught something moving and he could only assume it was the leg of one of them that stretched out towards the path he was walking on.

Kenneth secretly smirked when he saw that, he could already guess that they intended to do something embarrassing to him. Since they already had bad intentions towards him Kenneth also thought that there was no harm in retaliating against them.

Finally, Kenneth pretended to trip over the foot that was blocking his way. He only turned his body slightly when he was about to fall and poured the hot coffee in his hand towards the four people who were waiting for him to fall.

“AAAARRGHH!”

“Damn you!”

Kenneth had to really hold back his laughter when he heard all the expletives that the group let out when he doused them with hot coffee.

“Oh my! Are you guys okay? I accidentally split it because someone tripped my foot,” Kenneth said quickly, making it look as if he had accidentally poured the coffee on them.

Peter and his three friends couldn’t say anything because it was their intention to embarrass Kenneth. They just didn’t expect it to turn out like this.

“I’m not going to let you off the hook after what you did. Let’s see what happens!” Peter also said with an annoyed face that he had quickly left because his face and body were burning from the hot coffee.

Kenneth just smiled and let the people go. Finally, Kenneth had to make a new coffee before returning to his room.

For some reason, Kenneth was impressed with Melody’s work because the information she had requested earlier had actually been gathered before the day was over. When going home, Kenneth decided to take a look at the files Melody had collected.

Because he could not see this alone Kenneth also held Selena to check the file together, while he told Melody to go home first because it seemed that he and Selena needed a long time to check the file.

“You don’t mind accompanying me to check this file?” But before that, Kenneth made sure that Selena didn’t mind accompanying him because he also didn’t want to force her just like that.

“Of course, I also need to know it to think of a plan on how we’re going to deal with those people,” Selena replied while nodding her head with no objection.

After that, Kenneth told Melody to go home first. Then, Kenneth brought the stack of files to the sofa in his room.

“Look at this flow of funds. It looks like Jack is already thinking of working with Ethan for this Mining Reclamation project,” Kenneth said when he saw something odd in one of the documents he received.

“Why can you say that? It’s not clear in the document that the person Jack is working with is Ethan,” Selena replied while frowning in confusion.

“Did you forget that Ethan is the CFO of this company? He’s smart enough not to blatantly show that he’s the one supporting Jack,” Kenneth explained his conjecture.

Selena nodded her head in understanding. She knew that some people in the company supported Jack, but she didn’t know that an executive had supported Jack’s side even before Kenneth arrived.

“The reclamation project is the centre of attention for the company right now because we are venturing into the mining sector this year. It would be fatal if the project fails in your hands,” Selena explained, starting to feel worried about their current situation.

“I’m guessing that they won’t just give up on this reclamation project.” Kenneth sighed tiredly. He had expected a big obstacle for him, but he did not expect it to be this big.

“Can I ask you a favour about something?” Kenneth turned to Selena to look at her.

“Just say the word, I’ll take care of it for you.” Selena smiled confidently, sure she could do whatever Kenneth wanted.

“Put some people to observe the course of this reclamation project. I’m sure they will do something soon,” Kenneth replied afterwards.

“Alright, I’ll do it.” Selena finally nodded her head in understanding.

“Then this is it. Come on, let’s go home,” said Kenneth, then standing up from his position. He intended to go home because it was almost late at night.

As Kenneth and Selena walked towards the exit of the room, the door would not open. Kenneth, who was holding the doorknob, was frowning in confusion. He tried several times to open the door, but the door still couldn’t be opened.
