Chapter 3: The Truth

Winsor quickly took Kenneth away from Ramona's house, not wanting Rosaline to go on an even worse rampage. They immediately got into the car that Winsor had brought and left the Ramona house area. The car began to take Kenneth to the neighborhood where the rich lived, he couldn't believe he could get into an elite neighborhood like this. Kenneth tensed up even more when he saw the car start to drive towards a house with a tall, wide fence. Kenneth even had to swallow when he saw the front of the house. It seemed that Kenneth could not call this building a house. He would not be exaggerating if he called this building a modern-style palace. Kenneth could see that the car he was riding in had stopped in front of a very grand entrance, and he had even forgotten to get out of the car. When Kenneth realized the car door on his side had been opened from the outside by Winsor, who was waiting for him to get out of the car, Before getting out Kenneth caught his breath to calm down, then he got out of the car and walked towards the magnificent entrance. How surprised Kenneth was when he saw the big door open from the inside and saw an old man who was much older than Winsor coming out from inside the magnificent mansion. Kenneth panicked inside when he saw the old man walking towards him with a big smile on his face. “I finally found you, my grandson!” Kenneth was surprised when the old man who walked with a cane in his hand called him his grandson. He immediately thought that this old man was the person Winsor referred to as his grandfather. “I'm sure you still don't understand the situation, we better go in, I'll explain it to you,” said Robert, the old man who called Kenneth his grandson. “I'm sorry, it's just that I still don't believe in all this,” Kenneth replied as he followed the old man into the luxurious mansion. “Don't overthink about it. It's natural that you're confused because your pickup was very sudden.” Robert smiled warmly as he glanced at Kenneth, who was walking beside him. Robert also took Kenneth to the living room where Kenneth didn't expect that there were already quite a few people there, he didn't expect that there would be other people. There were four other people there of which there were three men and one woman who looked at Kenneth with curious eyes. “Is he Keith's son, grandfather?” A fairly young man asked as Robert walked towards the sofa there. “Yes, he will be part of our family from now on,” Robert replied, nodding his head and smiling brightly. Kenneth couldn't help but stand there as he didn't know where to sit since the people sitting on the sofa were all rich, world-famous people. “Are you sure he's Uncle Keith's son? No matter what, we still have to do something to confirm that he is Uncle Keith's son,” said the only woman there. “It's not that we doubt you, grandfather. It's just that there have been many impostors claiming to be Uncle Keith's son; we have to be more careful,” the other young man chimed in. Cold sweat began to emanate from Kenneth's body because he was very anxious at this time, considering that he did not know how he could convince them that he was the person they were looking for. Finally, Robert spoke again after clearing his throat quietly to attract everyone's attention. “If you want it then we will do it here. Kenneth, if you are indeed the son of my son Keith, then you must have a red lotus silver necklace on you, can you show us the necklace?” Robert asked Kenneth to produce evidence. The other four people who were there also looked at each other because they understood what Robert meant because they themselves also had the red lotus silver necklace from their parents. Hearing that, Kenneth frowned and took a box from his pants pocket; it was the only legacy from his parents given by the orphanage when he was old enough to receive the item. Kenneth slowly opened the shabby box, and he could see a silver necklace inside the box. It had a lotus-shaped pendant adorned with a bright red ruby. “I don't know if this is the necklace you are referring to. But this is the necklace that the orphanage gave me; they said it was the only thing my parents left me.” Kenneth showed the silver necklace to the others. “One thing you should know, I don't know anything about my parents because I've been in an orphanage since I was a child, so I don't know if I'm the son of the person named Keith that you said,” Kenneth continued after gathering all his courage. The people gathered there sighed when they saw the silver, red lotus necklace because it was already proof that Kenneth was indeed the person their grandfather was looking for. “I knew that you had that necklace. With that being confirmed that you are indeed my grandson, I'm sorry that it took me so long to bring you home,” Robert explained as he exhaled heavily. “But, why are you so sure? I'm still not even sure that I'm part of this conglomerate family,” Kenneth replied while looking down, he was still not ready for this change. “Grandpa, it looks like you have to explain what happened to Uncle Keith; no wonder he looks so confused like that.” This time, it was the woman again who spoke up. “Then you four go, I have to spend my time with him.” Robert waved his hand to shoo away his four other grandchildren. For a split second, Kenneth could see that the four looked unhappy, and he realized someone was looking at him with displeasure, but it all disappeared so quickly that he thought he had misinterpreted the person's gaze. “Welcome to the family. I'm Tyler, I hope we can be brothers who get along,” a young man said to Kenneth, then waltzed out of the living room. “We'll see each other often, you can call me Stuart.” This time a man slightly older than Kenneth greeted him with a voice that sounded cold. And the last man also walked past Kenneth coldly without saying anything, Kenneth also felt that he didn't really like his existence in this family. “Just ignore Jack. He's like that. I'm Ivonne. Just look for us if you need help,” said Ivonne, the only woman in the room, waltzing away while patting Kenneth lightly on the shoulder. After the others left the room Robert called Kenneth to sit on the sofa beside him. Kenneth obediently did what Robert said. “So, what do you want to know from me?” Robert turned to Kenneth with a warm smile on his face. “Before you explain my past, there is one thing that is bothering me right now. Why are you bringing me back now after all this time? What do you want from me?” Kenneth seriously looked at Robert. Robert grinned as he heard Kenneth's question, “You do resemble Keith. The reason I brought you here is only one. I want to pass this family down to you,” Robert explained casually. “Wouldn't those four people not accept it if you suddenly said that I would inherit your entire fortune?” Kenneth furrowed his brow in confusion. “Besides the fact that I feel bad for Keith, I recently found out that there is a traitor in my own family.” This time, Robert's voice sounded sharp, not as warm as before. Kenneth also fell silent when he heard Robert's words, not expecting that there would be a traitor. He regretted coming here because he felt a bad premonition at this time. “I want you to be my heir and find that traitor for me,” Robert said while looking straight at Kenneth. “From now on I will give you whatever you want and give you a significant position in the company, use all those benefits to help me, that's why I brought you back, Kenneth.” Robert with a serious face explained his true intentions.
