Chapter 8: First Day

After he was intercepted by Jack, Kenneth did not think much about it. Today, he had to prepare himself to go to the company as a CEO for the first time. Kenneth had also been contacted by Selena, who said that she would be waiting for him at the company.
In the dining room, Kenneth could see that Robert was waiting for him at the dining table. Kenneth immediately walked towards the dining table and greeted Robert politely.
“Good morning, Grandpa.” After greeting Robert, Kenneth seated himself in the chair on Robert’s right side.
“Morning. Are you ready for today?” Robert was actually quite worried about today, given that there were still many people who opposed Kenneth’s current position.
“Of course, I won't let you down on my first day of official work,” Kenneth replied with a soft chuckle.
Robert glanced around to make sure no one else was around. After he made sure, Robert said something to Kenneth in a low voice.
“You still remember my request, right?” Robert said while still eating, wanting to act as normal as possible.
“Yes, Grandpa. I will tell you if there is someone suspicious,” Kenneth replied seriously this time.
“Do you already have someone in mind?” Although Robert knew that it was still early, he just wanted to hear Kenneth’s opinion about his days that had started to change these days.
Kenneth was silent for a while. Actually, he was not suspicious of Jack; he thought Jack’s behavior was just a disappointment in the decision made by Robert, especially considering that Robert had promised Jack the CEO position before.
“For now, I still don’t have anyone’s name,” Kenneth replied with a slight smile on his face.
Robert nodded his head in understanding and let Kenneth continue with his breakfast. They spent the rest of the time in silence and enjoyed their respective meals.

When Kenneth arrived at the company he was awaited by three people in the company lobby, one of them was Selena who greeted him with a smile.
The other two were his grandfather’s trusted executives, who seemed to have been assigned to introduce him to the employees here, saying that Kenneth was the new CEO of their company.
“Thank you for taking your time for me today,” Kenneth said to the three of them who were waiting for him.
“No problem, the Chairman has entrusted us with this task.” One of the old men waiting for Kenneth said kindly to Kenneth.
“Then let's go upstairs.”
After a short conversation, Kenneth and the others went to the 32nd floor, where he would be working later. Honestly, Kenneth was quite nervous at the moment, especially since he knew that there were many people who didn’t like him.
This time, they didn’t take the VIP elevator, so Kenneth and the others had to share the elevator with other employees. Now, Kenneth became awkward as he overheard the conversations of some people who were in the elevator with them.
“Did you hear that our new CEO will be introduced today.”
“Yes, I heard! Not only that, he's also said to be a strong candidate to inherit the company.”
“But, I heard that person is not Mr. Jack.”
“I don't know, I heard that too. But, we won't know until we see it for ourselves.”
The conversation did not stop, and Kenneth heard many wild speculations, which made him feel even worse at the moment. Selena, who was beside Kenneth, also realized it; she smiled a little while patting Kenneth’s shoulder lightly to calm him down.
“You don't have to worry, they do like to gossip like that,” Selena whispered while chuckling softly.
“I didn't expect them to be like this,” Kenneth replied awkwardly, trying to catch his breath so he could calm down.
It didn’t take long for them to reach the 32nd floor. Fortunately, the gossiping employees had already gone downstairs to another floor, leaving only Kenneth and the others when they came out on the 32nd floor.
It seemed that all the employees who worked directly under Kenneth had been notified because when they got there, all the employees had gathered to welcome Kenneth and the others.
“It's great that all of you have gathered. Today we would like to introduce our new CEO, Kenneth Anderson.”
Kenneth came forward and bowed to the waiting employees.
“Starting today, I will be working with you as CEO. I hope we can work well together,” Kenneth introduced himself firmly.
And they also introduced Selena as Kenneth’s assistant. The people who knew the commotion yesterday were immediately in an uproar, but they did not dare to make noise and only whispered quietly.
Meanwhile, Peter and Ramona, who also worked there, were shocked. Their faces were already pale, not expecting that the loser they used to humiliate had somehow become their current CEO.
Ramona really couldn’t accept this fact; she already knew for sure that Kenneth was a poor man, even though his parents were dead. That’s why, at this time, Ramona is perplexed about how Kenneth can suddenly become the CEO of this company.
Not accepting this fact, Ramona also intends to report this to Ethan because Ethan is also one of the top executives in this company. Ramona knew that Ethan and Jack were close, and from what she heard, Jack was going to be the CEO.
So Ramona thought that Ethan would be thrilled when he heard her words this time. He would do everything possible to make Kenneth suffer.
“You think you can get out of your misery when you become more powerful than me? Just look at what's coming,” Ramona muttered with an evil smile on her face.
Ramona was so sick of people praising Kenneth and congratulating him that she hurried out of there after that.
After the reception, the two executives who came with Kenneth excused themselves and let Kenneth familiarize himself with his new job.
Kenneth and Selena were escorted to their rooms by another assistant who had worked with the old CEO.
“So, what's my schedule today?” After sitting in the luxurious chair in his new room, Kenneth immediately asked about the work he had to do today.
“Given that you are the new CEO here. For the next three days your schedule is still vacant, instead the big lord has given orders to train you for those three days,” explained Melody - the assistant who had been working since the old CEO took office - politely.
“Then I won’t mind, I hope you can teach me well.” Kenneth nodded his head in understanding; after all, he still had to learn about his new job.
