15 Shauna I wake up with the dawn, birds chirping merrily. As the last waves of sleep slip away, I let my thoughts drift on the melody of the bird’s voices. First, they spin to the elf who lies a few feet away and to what he had said. Paulo has no one. He has every reason not to trust me, and yet without knowing me, he brought me into his sanctuary. We are young, inexperienced and in my case at least, scared. We aren’t trained to defend ourselves, but we have to protect ourselves from spellcasters who would stop at nothing to kill us.
