The city glistened beneath her penthouse glass windows, everything looked perfect or at least seemed like it was, except one thing was not, HER HEART. Her face stared right back at her from one of the big glowing bill boards in the city, reminding her how big and successful she had become.
At only twenty four, she had already captured the hearts of many, achieved a lot, her household name reached beyond borders. The daughter of a wealthy family, surrounded by the sort of comfort and unlimited opportunities, at least that is what everyone thinks, but Elysian built everything from scratch without a single help from her family excluding her education in fashion school which was fully funded by her father. She proved it by working tirelessly, struggling, through exhausting hours of shoots, relentless demands for perfection, working under harsh and rude superiors, lack of rest, inconvenient schedules, and multiple countless rejections.
Whenever she walks on the runways, cameras did not just capture a model but an untouchable damsel wrapped in silk and pure diamonds. She was the very image of perfection, she turned heads wherever she went, a description of pure elegance. Magazines often refer to her as THE FACE OF A NEW ERA. Photographers would always fight for a chance to capture her as it was a great opportunity for them.
Her beauty was outstanding, from her long chestnut brown hair that is like pure silk, to her signature unique blue-green eyes, a color that shifts depending on the lighting, sometimes deep like the forest and like the ocean the next moment. Her body was perfectly sculpted, her bust was very full and rounded, a slim toned waist, an hourglass silhouette, she was a combination of beauty and poise.
She closed the doors to the balcony and leaned against them, pressing her right hand on her chest. The night air was too cool, it brushed her skin, making her flinch a bit. Then a faint tightness came very quick without a single warning. She was used to it but each time it happened, she couldn’t fight the excruciating pain that followed.
"No, no, please, not tonight." she whispered.
She reached for her white vanity, inside the drawer was a hidden purse containing the familiar pills, flipping it open, she swallowed immediately without hesitation, the bitter taste not surprising her taste buds, before reaching for a glass of water and taking a sip to wash it down her throat
She looked at the mirror, her reflection smiled at her, she looked stunning as always. No one would know, nobody should ever know, no one can. She recited her usual mantra in her head.
Since the day she was born, Doctors told her parents she would not live on earth too long and even if she did it would be difficult and filled with pain, agony, it would be unbearable.
Her heart was too weak, and fragile. An inherited condition, one so rare and wicked, that no amount of wealth can fix. Her parents, especially her father, made sure she received the best care and support, from the best Cardiologist, best therapist, best hospital and even down to the housekeepers. She was pampered and was not allowed to lift a finger until she decided to live on her own , from college. Even then, her parents found it very hard to support her decision to live alone. She was their only daughter, only child, only seed. A delicat, fragile and most precious glass that is not meant to shatter.
Treatments existed but a cure was difficult to find. She didn't let it bother her, or stop her from achieving her dreams. Every contract, every runway, every approved and signed deal was proof that she was not weak or fragile.
She didn’t let it stop her from getting to the top. If time was short, she would burn brightly , so bright that the world would remember her for an eternity.
Her phone buzzed on the bed. She picked it up and glanced at it, it was a message from her manager, William.
William: Do not forget about the shoot tomorrow. Blackwood Enterprises. This is huge, Ely. They are one of the top luxury companies in the world. Wear your best smile darling. This could make history .
She exhaled softly, she repeated the name Blackwood in her head. She had heard about them, basically everyone in the country and worldwide knows about them. Their influence is broad across fashion, luxury automobiles, softwares, real estates. It was an empire of luxury, fame, elegance and power, name it.
She would be a legend, and the most talked about person in the fashion industry after this shoot. It would be a ‘big’ different from working with the Ashton’s. It was indeed huge.
"I will be fine" she whispered to herself, smiling, before prepping for bed .
