Nora's POV
“Umm… Lucas, this is Nora, your stepsister. And Nora, this is your stepbrother, Lucas,” Derick coaxed gently, gesturing from the man he referred to as Lucas to me.
My breath paused.
“Stepbrother?” I muttered under my breath.
It was hard to believe what I was seeing. I had never known Derick had a son. And my mum didn't even mention a word about it to me before, I was entirely left in the dark.
I stared, confused and dazed about everything in entirety. When I glanced at my mum, all I saw was a soft, guilty smile. She knew she’d messed up. She had told me everything—everything but refused to tell me the only thing that mattered. That Derick had a son. That I was going to have a stepbrother… who just happened to be the most gorgeous man I had ever laid my eyes on.
“Well, Lucas might seem a little bit serious sometimes, but trust me, he's a nice guy,” Derick assured gently, reaching for my mum’s hand and smiling at her, “but with time, you two might get along,” he added.
I chuckled softly, forcing a smile out from my lips.
“Umm, yeah, sure,” I replied nervously, shoving my hair over to the side.
Lucas didn’t even look towards my direction, I tried to get his attention but he was just there, sitting silently at the table, eating. I stared at him for a moment, my spoon twirling over my plates, hoping he’d look up—but he didn’t. His focus remained on the plate of food he was eating.
“Such perfection is beyond any I have ever seen,” I thought to myself, chewing slowly.
“His eyes, his lips is just so breathtaking. A perfection I’d always craved, a kind of man, I would love to spend the rest of my life with,” I added in thought.
As the thought crept into my imagination even more, I quickly shook it off, snapping myself back to reality.
“What am I thinking, f**k! am actually losing my insanity?” I scolded myself thoughtfully.
“He’s my stepbrother for god sake. How on earth am I already thinking this wild about him?” I added in thoughts, and I could feel my foot tapping on the floor.
“Dad, I’m done. Thanks for the meal,” Lucas said, standing up. Just as he was about to leave, he paused, then shifted his gaze to me.
“It's nice having you as my stepsister. I just hope we get along,” he added before walking away.
I let out a small laugh, rubbing the back of my head and shrugging nervously. “Yeah, sure. We’ll get along,” I replied with a smile, though the smile wasn't coming from my heart but from how nervous and stupid I was at the moment.
“Your son didn’t even notice me,” my mum spoke out after Lucas left, turning to Derick with a worried look. “Did I do something wrong?” she added.
I already knew the answer. Lucas probably wasn’t thrilled about us moving into the house either, because his character had already said it all.
“Fiona, forget about all that, He’ll adjust with time, trust me,” Derick replied casually.
After the meal, Derick stood, then arranged his collar. “Nora, come with me. Let me show you to your room, okay?” he said with a warm smile.
I nodded.
“Okay, sir.”
We walked upstairs, and Derick stopped in front of a room, then pushed the door open.
As the door rolled open, my jaw dropped, it felt like I was staring into sometimes that is beyond anything I had ever imagined, the room felt like heaven.
The room was perfectly arranged with almost everything I had ever wanted, it was as if Derick read through my entire mind.
The soft pink milky colour painted the walls bringing a glimpse of a celebrity lifestyle, and the most amazing part of it was, the wardrobe in my room was already stocked with clothes, cloths of different types of qualities. I stood dumbfounded, unable to grasp the entire thing.
“Wow… you mean, you did this all for me?” I asked, my eyes still felt surreal, turning to look at derick with a surprised expression on my face.
“Yes, honey. I did it all for you, and I hope you like it,” Derick replied. “You’re just like a daughter to me, and I’ll treat you like one—with love and care,” he added.
I was speechless. I stepped into the room and saw my bags neatly placed in the corner. I walked over to the wardrobe, amazed. I stared at the gowns, my hands running over the dresses, as I grasped its beauty. If this same clothes were put on a showglass for sale, it would cost not less than a thousand dollars.
“Wait a minute, are all these clothes also mine?” I asked, trying to reconfirm.
“Hehehe, you’re funny, Nora. Yes, they’re all yours, feel happy to test them on,” Derick replied with a chuckle.
I picked out a beautiful gown among the dresses, adorned with floral designs and delicate stones glittering at the neckline.
“Thank you so much,” I said softly, feeling excited. “How did you know I love pink this much?” I shifted my gaze and inquired.
“Your mum—my lovely wife—gave me a little hint,” Derick chuckled with a smile. “As a father, I need to know what my kids love so we can connect, more, isn't that right, Fiona?” Derick asked the turn and kissed my mum on the forehead.
I shifted my gaze to my mum. And she gave me a knowing smile.
“Thank you again, sir. I really appreciate what you have done, I thought you would be some, ano….” I wanted to finish the word, but as soon as my eyes met my mum's own, I hooked on my word, then smiled, and just then, Derick voice cut in.
“Hehehe, Nora, please—don’t call me ‘sir.’ Call me ‘Dad.’ I’d really like that,” he said, laughing vigorously, somewhat annoyingly.
My mum knew what I wanted to say earlier, and then thanks to her she gave me that warning look, if not, I would have turned everything into a mess.
“Okay… Dad. Thank you,” I nodded.
“hehe, that’s better. Now you’re talking,” Derick chuckled softly, then yawned slightly, stretching his body.
“Well, I think I’m done here. Time for me to get some sweet sleep with the love of my life,” he added playfully, pressing a kiss on my mum’s cheek.
“Fiona, let’s go. Let's give Nora some space to settle in and arrange her room then way she feels fit,” Derick said, wrapping his arm around her waist.
“Yeah, sure,” my mum replied with a nod. “But before that, Derick, I want to speak with Nora for a moment. I’ll come downstairs once I’m done,” she added, pressing a kiss on his cheek as well.
Derick nodded. “Okay, honey. I’ll be waiting,” Derick replied before exiting the room and closing the door behind him.
I returned the clothes to the wardrobe, then turned to face my mum directly. My arms were crossed over my chest, and I locked eyes with her.
“I think you failed to tell me something important,” I demanded, glaring.
My mum chuckled softly and stepped closer, placing her hands gently on my shoulders.
“Nora, I’ve been meaning to tell you… but I thought it would be better if you saw it for yourself.”
“Oh, now you’re hiding secrets from me?” I asked sharply. “Is that how it is, Mum? All this time, you never told me your husband—my stepdad—has a son. And that I would have a stepbrother?” I shook my head, narrowing my eyes with a heavy sigh.
