Chapter 6. Mate.

I stood paralyzed when the eyes of everyone in the crowd shifted to me. I wanted to disappear as quickly as possible, especially since the King took a few steps towards me to examine me closely. His eyebrows were almost touching each other. I wanted to take a step back, but the prince's hand tightened tightly on my arm, limiting my freedom of movement. I swallowed loudly, feeling my mouth suddenly feel dry. I would never have thought that the man whose scent made me ecstatic was the prince himself, and his parents were the most powerful men among werewolves. I looked at Athena for support, but she looked as shocked as the rest of the company. I sighed as I waited for the death sentence from King Emreis, but he was just staring at me shrewdly. - We thought we would see you in the body of a wolf. - he said finally, and I felt a cold shiver at the sound of his voice. It was brusque and aimed only at me, but there was no threat or contempt in it. There was, however, a hint of curiosity in it. I didn't know what to say to them, so I was silent and the atmosphere in the room grew heavy. I never thought that I would meet a boy from the woods again. I was thinking about how he had probably already found another woman to whom he gave his heart, because our bond was not strong, only her thread managed to form during our first and last meeting. I never thought that it would turn out to be a prince in his own form, after the royal family took political vows when they did not find their true mate. - What did you do to him? - the Queen asked, breaking the long silence, and I breathed a sigh of relief. I looked at the witch and she only nodded her head, which meant that I was to explain everything to them. I felt my hands starting to sweat from the stress, and my wolf was gathering strength to get out of here as soon as possible. - The prince was bitten by a wolf, right? - I asked through the clenched throat - From his wound I could smell the venom of a vampire. Either someone mistook a wolf for a vampire or it had to be a hybrid... - at my words, the only thing I heard was the grinding of teeth - I know you probably take me for a madman, but for several months I notoriously treated vampire bites in witches and werewolves, Your Majesty. - I added bowing my head. Alpha King Emreis cursed softly under his breath, then pulled away from me, and I felt the ground slide under my feet. I was standing with great difficulty, I was shaking thinking about the penalties that could meet me for being their son's chosen one. Moon Goddess must have been kidding me. My whole life has been a joke, and that's a confirmation of it all. - How do you heal these bites? - the King asked, approaching his wife again, who now stood looking at me closely. - We treat normal vampire bites with potions. One mixture is poured over the wound to get rid of the venom from it and start healing. The second mixture must be drunk by the treated person to get rid of toxins from the body, and the third one is rubbed into the patient's body to ease his pain. - I answered truthfully. - As it was an unusual bite, Athena had to use her spells to prevent the prince from losing his wolf, Your Majesty. - I think the prince will get out of this, but he will need a lot of sleep and rest. Mate bond can help a lot with healing. - The old woman finally spoke up, and I looked at her in shock. She wanted my death? - I know you probably have a hard time accepting it, but you know your body well and you know that the best medicine for your son is her. - She pointed her finger at me and I felt my cheeks turning red. - Your relationship with the partner that Moon Goddess chooses for you is unique, and you, as people who experience it, know that their long separation has weakened them. If she comes back with me now, the Prince and Nadia will suffer again, Your Majesty. I parted my mouth a little, not knowing what to say. I wanted to deny it all, but I couldn't. The will to be with him was stronger than anything else. Haizi had given it up once before, and now that she was not driven by anger, she regretted doing so. I was surprised by my grandmother's behavior. It was as if she just knew about everything and didn't bring it up with me so as not to hurt me. She bowed slightly and then walked over to hug me. I didn't know when I would see her again and if I would survive my stay here, but I couldn't escape again. She whispered in my ear that everything would be fine and that I keep the potions just in case. A tear ran down my cheek as she left the room, leaving me alone. Until now, she was my greatest support, and now I felt like I had lost everything again. I would probably have plunged into sadness if it had not been for the prince's hand that was tightening on my fingers. I didn't even notice when only me, the King, the Queen and the unconscious prince remained in the room. - How did you stop being rogue? Is it even possible? - The woman's voice sounded suspicious as her gaze met mine. I bowed my head to show them respect and then tell them about everything that happened to me. How I became a monster at all and how I found their son, and then about how this inconspicuous old lady snatched me from the beast's clutches. I didn't know why I was telling them about it, but I felt that I just had to. When I finished, I apologized to them for how I behaved towards their child and that I shouldn't be his other half. - You are a pretty and smart woman. Moon Goddess obviously has plans for you. - the Queen said finally, breaking the silence that followed my confession. - Take care of him, we now have to check if it really is as you say and that our son has been bitten by a hybrid. - I bowed slightly to them, and when the door closed behind them, I sat exhausted on the edge of the bed. I got lost in my thoughts. I really wanted to meet him again, I hid it deep in my heart and mind, but it was one thing I couldn't stop thinking about. I did not think that our fate would be united again and we would see each other after I had control over my body. It was only the movement on the bed that made me open my so far closed eyes and looked at the figure lying next to me. My heart skipped a beat as I saw his surprised and penetrating gaze fixed on me. - We meet again. - We said at the same moment, and his lips curved into a broad smile. A beautiful smile that I could look at for hours. - Mate. - he said without taking his eyes off me. - Mate. - I replied licking chapped lips. I had no time to react when he suddenly pulled me close, enclosing me in a bear hug. I didn't even know that I had wanted this so badly for so long that it was exactly what I was missing to be completely happy. I rested my hands on his chest, hiding my face in the hollow of his neck, enjoying his sweet coconut scent, and I felt that he did exactly the same. I smiled slightly to myself, only thinking about how it was possible for his scent to be so overwhelming. After a while I heard his soft snoring and had no doubts that the man fell asleep, pressing me tightly against him. - Mate. - I repeated quietly to myself, relishing the word and feeling like my wolf with happiness screaming in my head to mark him. I laughed, closing my eyes. - Now everything had to be okay - I thought, feeling that the dream in his arms is the best thing that could happen to me today.
