Nadia pov.
All I felt when I started regaining consciousness was a dull pain in my head and ribs. I knew that if I had any injuries, it would heal quickly. I tried to focus on what had happened, but I couldn't remember anything but running through the forest and then the impact.
I opened my eyes slightly and suddenly something hit me. I was myself! After being in wolf form, I forgot how smooth my skin was, it was dirty, covered with blood, but it was skin - not fur. All that covered my body now was a thin blanket. I looked around and saw that there were clean clothes on the high chair next to me, along with a towel.
I sat on the edge of the bed to get a better look at where I was. A small room painted blue, with a small bed, a wardrobe and a small desk with a chair.
I got up taking things on the way. I made my way to the door that was closer to me. Fortunately, I found a small bathroom with a shower, toilet and a mirror above the sink in front of which I stood.
I touched my face staring at myself in the mirror. I was extremely skinny, dirty, my white hair was almost black. I ran my fingers over the bruises under my eyes from exhaustion and fear. I turned on the hot water which began to flow from the shower head. I stepped underneath it, letting the boiling water wash my body and relax my muscles.
I poured shampoo on my hair standing on the shelf and began to vigorously wash it as well as the rest of my body, wanting to get rid of the dirt and emotions that had started to overwhelm me. Why was Haizi silent? Was she offended that I had the power again? Has something happened to her?
I didn't know how long I was washing, but when I was finally done, my snow-white skin was red. I put on an oversized white blouse and black leggings that someone had left for me while I was unconscious, then looked up in the mirror again.
My azure eyes gently brightened and my hair was back in its natural color. I combed them with my fingers with great difficulty. I ran my tongue over my teeth, tasting a metallic taste in my mouth and wishing I even had a toothbrush.
When I was done, I emptied my bladder before leaving. I had to find person who helped me.
I left the bathroom and then went to the second door that was in the room. They led to a narrow corridor. I heard whispers nearby, so I headed towards them. After a while I found myself in a small kitchen where an elderly woman was sitting on the floor playing with a small dog.
- Glad you got up. - She said without taking her eyes off the pet, which gracefully rubbed her hands with his nose.
Her gray hair framed her face, which was lined with wrinkles. As her gaze finally fell on me, a gleam of satisfaction appeared in her green eyes. She slowly rose from the floor, pointing to the table nearby, on which I had only now noticed the plates standing on it.
I was still standing where she took one of the seats, and then I heard a urge from her lips. I slowly took my seat across from her, staring blankly at the plate in front of me. There was a piece of meat with sauce on it. I couldn't remember eating a normal hot meal that wasn't hunted down and didn't taste blood.I slowly chewed my meal under her watchful gaze.
- I'm glad you're okay. I never thought I would hit a werewolf with a car. - she laughed softly. - Strangely enough, even unconscious you remained in wolf form. Only one thing occurred to me when I brought you home.
She was silent for a moment, staring at me as I finished eating and gratefully drank the glass of juice beside my plate. I looked at her questioningly. I wanted to know what the old lady had done to regain my human form, but I couldn't speak. I didn't talk to anyone for so long that I was afraid of the sound of my own voice. The woman seemed to understand what I meant, so she just nodded her head.
- Witchcraft, my dear. - she smiled broadly at me. - I'm a witch, old, but I can still use my power. - she laughed warmly. - But I don't know if you will keep your form when I take off my spell. You seem very confused, you and your wolf.
I wasn't mad at her for hitting me. I was grateful that I could finally be myself, just for a while. An image of a man from the woods flew through my head. I felt as if he had ripped my heart out and he wouldn't give it back. I wish I could stay in this form to find him and see if he also felt what I did. Was he only interested in me to kill me because I'm a rogue? Probably my wolf invaded their territories, and they felt threatened.
- You can stay here for now if you want. I will try to slowly take the spell out of you, making sure you don't lose control again. I sense you don't belong to any pack anymore, so if you walk from here and someone senses you, we both know they won't have any qualms about killing you.
I nodded silently, and felt tears welling up in my eyes. I was grateful to this woman for her help and for not leaving me in this forest for fate. Others in her position would not risk being attacked because of me, and she, not even knowing if I was friendly, simply extended a helping hand to me. For a moment, I wished I had someone like that with me when I was living with my father. Perhaps I wouldn't be in that position right now.
- Where are my manners. - Her warm voice made me stop thinking for a moment. - I'm Athena. You can call me Grandma if you want, of course.
I smiled at her, nodding at her suggestions. I wanted very much to have loving grandparents, but from my mother's side I had no one, and my father's family hated me from the very beginning as much as he did. I held my hand out towards her and grunted, fearing that no words would escape from my mouth.
- Nadia. - I whispered and was surprised at the sound of my own voice. It was scratchy and weak, as if I hadn't used it for at least a couple of years, not a couple of weeks. - But you can call me Naddy, Grandma. - I smiled warmly at her and she returned my smile.
- My child, I don't know who hurt you so much in your life, but no one will find you here. I covered all your scent so that you can regenerate in peace. - She laughed and stood up to bring me a piece of cake from the fridge.
I became sad knowing that now my mate would not find me and see that I was not a ruthless murderer, but on the other hand I was very grateful to this woman. I didn't want to defend myself now from hunters and wolves who would see me as a threat. I ate the dessert with relish, then closed my eyes, feeling calm overwhelming me. I wished I could talk to Haizi, she was my friend, but I knew that if she had the opportunity she would take control of my body right away.
- Come on, we have to conjure up some clothes for you. - the woman saying "conjure" actually meant it, because after a while we were standing in the middle of the room, and Athena was whispering something under her breath watching me from top to bottom.
A few minutes later she gave me a large bag with new clothes, underwear and shoes. When I looked inside, there was a toothbrush and a hairbrush on top. I raised my eyebrows in disbelief as she only shrugged.
- My friend witch owns a clothes shop. - She said, laughing out loud, and I slapped my forehead with my hand.
I couldn't believe that I had managed to meet such a wonderful person. I laughed along with her, looking gratefully at Athene, who was holding in her arms the same dog she had played with before and whom she called "Brutus". I pushed all my worries away, wanting to relax and think about what to do next.
