Chapter 19

“Please change” Adolf said to Paige. “Let me show William how I know”

As Paige shifted, William noticed a glow around her eyes, for a brief moment it looked as if they became golden, and then it disappeared.

“I see you saw that” said Adolf. “All Von Tromp wolves have that golden glow, yours however stayed golden, and that is why I said you are different.”

When William looked at Paige again, she was already back in human form and dressed.

“Time to let you out of here, and sorry for the treatment, but we have to be extra careful, especially after what my brother did”

As the three of them sat around a table, William looked at Adolf. “What did my father do that made you so suspicious?” William asked.

“I guess I can tell you, seeing that he is dead after all” said Adolf. “Your father was to be the new Beta of our pack. I was to be Alpha because I was born 2 minutes before him. He always resented the fact he wasn’t going to be the leader, and he grew up hating everything and everyone. When he first shifted, he realised he was an extremely strong wolf, and that he could manipulate people quite easily. That is when everything started going wrong. He met Delilah at my mating ceremony. At the time she was the Luna of the Black Forest pack, but somehow he managed to get her into bed. Rumour had it that she fell pregnant, and I guess that was no rumour, seeing you are here. Anyway, they went to the Black Forest for a run, and the Alpha was informed that they were there without consent.  The Alpha had them captured and brought to his castle. The last we heard was that there was a fight, and Gabriel killed the Alpha. They decided to flee the country, but a week later Delilah requested her friends to come to her because Gabriel was dead. Now we know why, because you must have been born just after Gabriel’s death. The next we heard was that Delilah has also passed, and then another week later we got news from our trackers that Charles and Margaret was killed in Burundi in a civil war. There was never any news about a child, otherwise we would have looked for you. We have been hunted ever since by the Black Forest pack wanting revenge. They believe that we are lying to them, that we are hiding Gabriel somewhere”

“Well, I can assure you that Gabriel is very much alive, as is my mother Delilah and Margaret. Charles however died very recently, seems as if they all lied to you. My father has his own pack now, he is the Alpha, and a very cruel one at it,” said William.

“My father always spoke of me as being different, you just mentioned the same, but he spoke of me as being a different kind” said William.

“There are mythological stories, old woman’s tales, call it what you want about a different kind of werewolf. One that has the powers to completely mask his scent from other wolves. And trust me, you definitely do not fit that trait, we smelled you when you arrived in Wiesbaden. But as I said, old woman’s tales, and in these tales they died out centuries ago. The Council of Werewolves was scared of them, and they got the help from a very powerful Witch that cast a protection spell on the wolves when they went into battle. Without that spell, the werewolves would have perished at the hands of the Lycans, but they won the battle and killed all of them. They then killed the Witch to protect their secret. It has been said that the Witch, Morgana, cursed the Council just before she died, and none of them ever had any children. A new Council was naturally formed, but no-one knows if this is true,” said Adolf.

“If the Black Forest pack were to find my father, what would happen?” asked William.

“There is no telling, they have such a hatred for anyone bearing the surname Von Tromp, that we have stopped using it. But I guess that we could get peace between us if we were to deliver him to them. However, I wouldn’t do that to you, I wouldn’t take away your father from you” said Adolf.

“Well, we do know that you grew up in South Africa, it is just to find out where” said Paige.

“I want to tell you a story” said William, and for the next two hours he told them how his father has raised him, treated him, and had him “trained” by Beta Charles. When William finished, he could see the tears in Paige’s eyes, but he wasn’t ready for what he saw from Adolf.

“Is that hatred towards your brother?” asked William, and Adolf just nodded.

“It is impossible, that is not the way he was raised” is all Adolf could say. He walked over to William and gave him a big hug. “I will make sure that he gets punished for what he did. All I need is the town name, and I will get word to the Black Forest pack. They will have your revenge as well as theirs”

“I would like to be the one delivering the news to them” said William.  “Just tell me where to find them and I will go.”

“They will surely kill you too, out of principal for Gabriel taking their Luna and killing their Alpha. It is best we send word to them using one of our trackers. We can then meet afterwards with their new Alpha, to discuss peace” said Adolf.

“I know I am just a woman, but I would propose we send word to them that we would like to meet to discuss peace. We can always offer Gabriel’s whereabouts to them as a bargaining chip, instead of giving it to them before discussing peace” Paige said.

“You are right, but let me be the one to tell them where to find him. I want to be in the meeting also” said William.
