The Rejected Alpha

Chapter 14

“Because you are not pure Von Tromp blood,” his father responded. “You are the product of your mother’s lust and a council member that did not know his boundaries. You cannot be an Alpha of this pack, no half breed can lead, and I had to get you to relinquish, however, seeing that you don’t want to do that, I will do it on your behalf when Simon turns eighteen in three months’ time. Then I can hand over the title of Alpha to a proper Von Tromp.”

“Now, you have choices to make, mutt”, his father continued, “either you hide here amongst the humans, and live in exile, you come home, and stand trial for the murder of Beta  Charles, or, and I am only doing this because of your mother, I will buy you a one way ticket to Frankfurt, where you can go and look for your own kind, but  remember, if you choose option three, you can never return to South Africa, because you will be hunted down and killed.”

“You have until the weekend,” his father said, as he got up and left the shop.

“MY kind, what did he mean by that” William thought as he was looking down at his coffee cup. “We need to find out more”, Sebastian said, “we need to go to Wiesbaden and find your father, only he will have the answers. “

“Hello William”, he heard and was startled to see that Kelly was sitting opposite him, he did not even hear her take a seat. “When did you come back?” She asked with a smile on her face.

“Not now”, William thought to himself, “you will only distract me from what I need to do” but he had to talk to her, as she was looking intently at him waiting for an answer.

“A couple of days ago,” William replied, “but I have been busy at home, I haven’t really had time to come to town.”

“That is good news”, Kelly replied, and he could swear he saw a familiar look in her eyes, but he couldn’t quite place it. “I am however going to be leaving Howick for a while,” Kelly continued, “It would be great if we could have some coffee together before I leave,” she said.

“We can do that” William said, “but I might also be leaving, and I don’t think I will return.

“Oh,” responded Kelly, “and why would that be,” she asked.

“It is a long story, and I think you will only find it boring” he said. “We cannot tell her the truth,” Sebastian said in his head. “Humans do not understand what we are, and she will only have us killed by the humans if she finds out what we are.”

“Tell me, where are you going,” William asked Kelly, trying to change the subject.

“I am going to be studying abroad” Kelly replied, “I am leaving for Frankfurt on Friday” she continued, “we have family and friends that live over there, and I will be  staying with them while studying.”

“I did not know your family comes from Germany”, William responded.

Kelly just smiled at him, “well with a surname of Von Keller”, she said, “it is difficult to think of me as other than German. Just as you are from German decent”, she continued,” Mr Von Tromp.”

William looked at her, he did not even know her surname, but here she was knowing his surname. “Something is not right”, Sebastian said, “how does she know that,” and as if Kelly read their minds, she continued, “the day I joined the school, my parents were sitting next to you at the Principals office, and we overheard your surname when you were called into his office. I was coming out of the bathroom just as you went inside, I don’t think you saw me.”

“We need to get away,” Sebastian continued, “she knows too much already, we know nothing about her and her family”.

As William got up to leave, he said to Kelly, “enjoy your time studying in Frankfurt, but I have to get home now”.

“OH, I am not going to be studying in Frankfurt” she said, and a cold chill ran down Williams spine when he heard her say, “I am going to study in a small town outside Frankfurt, but it is easier to say Frankfurt because people know that name. I am going to study in Wiesbaden.”

William could not get out of there quick enough as a cold sweat broke out. “Something is wrong, terribly wrong” is all he could think of, “the coincidences are too many. Who is Kelly Von Keller? What is her family doing here? Why all of a sudden is she also going to Wiesbaden? Is this purely coincidental”, he thought to himself.

“She is a human,” reminded Sebastian him,” yes, the coincidences are huge, but I cannot get a wolf scent from her or her family, they live in the human part of town she has never looked at you in disgust, therefore she does not know about your treatment from the wolves.”

As William walked around town, it only took him twenty minutes thou, he decided he will take his father’s option of leaving for Germany, at least if he told him tonight, he might even be on the same flight as Kelly. It would be great to have at least one friendly face in Wiesbaden when he got there.

William was all too happy when his father agreed to get him a ticket to Germany as early as Friday, and he knew he would be on the same flight as Kelly. Walking to the coffee shop to meet up with her, he got that eerie feeling of someone watching him again, and as he turned around he saw someone quickly hiding behind a group of trees.

“Who is following me”, he thought, “why am I followed.” He decided to go and look, and as he ran over to the trees he was certain it was more than one person. When he got there he couldn’t find anyone, but the scent of wolves were hanging in the air.
