The heavy double doors of the stairwell bounced open, and Rachel stepped out into the main corridor of the executive floor. Right on cue, she spotted Richard walking toward her, a small entourage of department heads and administrative employees trailing closely behind him.
He had clearly heard Chloe’s blood-curdling scream echoing through the concrete walls.
Hearing the rapid, squelching footsteps of her furious adoptive sister charging up from behind, Rachel didn't hesitate. Her face instantly transformed from a cold smirk into a picture of wide-eyed, fragile panic. She darted forward, slipping effortlessly behind Richard’s broad frame and grabbing the sleeve of his suit jacket.
