Chapter 4.
Malia’s POV.
I held the results in my hand as I strolled home, despair and confusion filled inside of me. I was pregnant. I knew who I was pregnant by, but I also knew he wasn’t going to accept me.
I found myself standing in front of my mom and Dad’s burial place. I sat down there, and sighed.
“Mom, Dad. A lot has been happening.” I said and I wiped the tears that threatened to spill from my eyes. “A whole lot. Right now, I am in so much pain, so much confusion.” I said and whimpered again. I laid down beside their graves and shut my eyes.
“How do I tell the world that I got pregnant by my own cousin.?” I said and breathed out. I ran my hand through my hair. “I know what you are probably thinking. How did I get myself into that kind of situation? But it is what it is. You know?” I murmured, with a bitter chuckle.
“After Aunt forced me to dump Kylian, saying I wasn’t good for him. She already believes I am good for nothing. And Anna treats me like a slave. I feel so useless, so unworthy.” I said and laid back down. The skies deepened and it looked like it was about to pour down torrents.
The rain began to pour heavily and it drenched me. I tried looking around for a shelter I could run into, and found a shack nearby, and I ran towards it.
I sat in the shelter, my entire dress ruined by the rains. “What an unlucky fate I have. I didn’t come out with an umbrella, and rain falls in heavy torrents.” I said and sighed, as I watched as the rain Poured down. Jerome would never accept this pregnancy. Moreover, His mom will never accept me to be his wife. I sighed bitterly. All these would never have happened if Aunt had not interfered in my marriage with Kylian. I wiped my tears. I put my hand into the rain and waited for it to reduce, but it seemed like it had no plans to reduce.
I laid down on the floor and waited for the rain to stop, and closed my eyes off for a bit, unconsciousness dragging me with it into the unknown.
“Young lady. Young lady, can you hear me?” I heard a voice call and I stood up. I looked around and noticed that it was night time, but I wasn’t in the shack. I was in a hospital. An old man was staring at me. “Are you alright? Do you feel okay?” He asked and I nodded.
“What;s going on? How did I get here?” I asked, and a healer looked at me.
“This man found you unconscious, in a shack near the pack’s cemetery. He said he had tapped you so many times, but you didn’t wake up, so he brought you to the hospital., in plain hopes that you were not dead yet.” She said and looked at her records. “You do know that you are with child, do you?” She asked, and I nodded, swallowing hard.
“Yes, I do.” I murmured and she nodded.
“Very good. The water in your system is very low, by the way. I would love to keep you here for observation.” She said and I looked at her in apprehension.
“No!” I protested loudly, and she looked at me. The old man looked at me. “No. I have to go home. I need to go home.” I said and she looked at the old man, who in turn looked at me.
“Can we call your family, your parents. You need to remain here fir better observation.” He said and I shook my head vehemently.
“Discharge me right now, I need to go home.” I said and he looked at the doctor and nodded. Even though he was old, I could see obvious Authority in his voice.
He looked at me gently. “What’s your name?” He asked.
“Its Malia.” I replied.
“Malia. If you need anything, you can come find me at Jordan’s inn. I will be there till tomorrow. I won't pressure you to say anything about what you might be passing through, but I understand the pressure of you wanting to go back. So I will let you go.” He said softly and I nodded.
“Thank you.” I murmured and stepped down from the bed. He called me back and gave me some money, saying I should use it to take care of myself.
I arrived home, and wished to the moon goddess that everyone was already asleep. I walked to the back door, the door leading to the pantry, and opened it very slowly, trying to avoid the creaking. I tightened my lip, as I removed my shoes, as quietly as I could, and then tiptoed to my room. I heard voices coming from the dining room. “Oh s**t. They’re awake.” I murmured.I hurriedly wrapped my shawl around my face and mouth, covering up totally.
“Miss Malia?” I heard one of the maids say my name. She was shocked to see me secretly entering the house like a thief.
“Shh!” I hushed her harshly. She gave me a look and then walked away. I decided to pass by Jerome’s bedroom, instead of getting to my bedroom.
I felt something hit me. I fell to the floor. Next thing I knew, someone was wrestling with my shawl. “Why, you thief! How did you get in here?! I shall make sure you get arrested for attempting to steal from me.” Anna said as she wrestled my shawl off.
She looked at me with contempt, cue in Aunt’s look of anger and Kylian’s look of disinterest.
“What do you think you are doing, sneaking in like a thief?!” Anna asked and I looked away. “You stay out all day, without coming home, and you sneak in like a thief at night. What have you done now?” Anna said and I looked at her.
“Nothing. Sorry for disturbing your beauty sleep.” I apologised but I was more sarcastic than apologetic. She narrowed her eyes as she watched me.
“No There’s something you are hiding.” She said, I clenched my bag that had the paper and the money the kind old man had given me. Anna seemed to have noticed my grip on the bag, and she snatched it away from me.
“Give me that!” I yelled angrily and she giggled.
“Whoops. I already have it. Now what little secret do you have hiding inside here?” She asked, and she brought out the envelope of money. “Money. This isn’t in the pack’s currency though.” She said and Aunt Jane’s face seemed to drain of colour when she saw the currency.
“Where did you get that from?” She asked and I looked away.
“I am not telling.” I said and looked away again. Anna brought out the result and gasped with her mouth wide open.
“Hold up a second, Malia. You are pregnant?!” She asked and I grabbed the hem of my dress.
Fuck!
