Twelve HELEN AND I WALK INTO the interview room, Nate looking even more forlorn than yesterday. The arraignment, according to Helen, hadn’t gone well for him. He pled not guilty to rape and first-degree murder. When the question of bail came up, Angela pressed the judge for no bail. Nate’s young public defender tried to argue his ties to the community, which Angela countered by saying that those ties were frayed, at best, at the moment and his family was in Montana. The judge agreed with Angela. Nate’s looking at spending the next several months in the county lockup. Ironically, the same place Richard Davenport’s been held since his arrest.
