The ChateauThe Chateau was set well back on the property with a stone driveway culminating in a circle in front of a pillared entrance. The grounds, manicured with beautiful lawns and flowering shrubs and trees, were a stunning contrast to the neighboring properties which were much more modest. Behind the vanilla colored building, the ground sloped downward and the Chateau became three stories opening on to a large swimming pool bordered by hedges. The Chateau was built by the late Minister of Tourism who used it as his country house and a place to entertain guests. He was the one to name it Chateau Abengourou, after the city in which it was located. Abengourou had a population of about one hundred thousand, the largest interior city in the country.
