Amelia POV
The mate who rejected me. The sister who ruined me.
Damien’s sharp, disgusted gaze raked over me, while Lillian smirked, clinging to his arm like she owned him.
I swallowed, forcing myself to stand tall. “What are you doing here?”
Damien scoffed. “That should be my question, Amelia. You’re pathetic. Did you really follow me here? Did you think begging would make me take you back?”
His words hit like a slap, but I refused to let him see my pain.
Lillian let out a cruel laugh. “Honestly, Amelia, this is embarrassing. Have some dignity.” She leaned into Damien, her eyes filled with mock sympathy. “We’re here for an important meeting with the Alpha King. Unlike you, we actually have a purpose here.”
My blood turned cold. They had no idea.
I wanted to laugh at the irony. They thought I was here, desperate for Damien’s attention.
Lillian folded her arms across her chest, tilting her head as she examined me like I was nothing more than an insect beneath her shoe. “So, you’re actually still alive?” she sneered, eyes gleaming with malice. “That’s… unfortunate.”
Damien scoffed beside her, his piercing gaze filled with disgust. “What the hell are you even doing here, Amelia? Are you following me now? That’s pathetic.”
I clenched my fists at my sides, forcing myself to stand tall, but the lump forming in my throat made it hard to breathe.
Lillian let out a mocking gasp. “Oh! Don’t tell me you’re here to beg Damien to take you back?” She giggled, turning to him. “She just can’t let go, can she?”
Damien smirked, his voice dripping with cruelty. “You must be delusional, Amelia. I don’t want a weak, low-life mate like you. You’re nothing but a disgrace, a burden that was never meant to be mine.”
His words cut deep, reopening wounds that had barely begun to heal. But I refused to let them see how much it hurt.
Lillian stepped closer, lowering her voice to a venomous whisper. “And to think… we all assumed you were dead. A thief like you didn’t deserve to be in the Blood Crescent Pack anyway. So tell me, did you crawl back just to humiliate yourself more?”
I forced myself to hold her gaze. “I don’t owe either of you an explanation.”
She laughed. “Oh, but you do! Because right now, you’re trespassing in a place where you clearly don’t belong.”
Damien nodded, his expression hardening. “Get out, Amelia. Before we call security and have them drag you out like the pathetic thing you are.”
I felt my nails dig into my palms as I fought back the sting of tears.
I wanted to tell them the truth…to let them choke on their own arrogance when they realized I wasn’t here for Damien.
But just as I opened my mouth to speak, a familiar presence filled the room, sending a shiver down my spine.
A low growl rumbled through the air.
And then….
“Is there a problem here?”
Killian’s voice was calm. Dangerous.
And just like that, the room fell into a suffocating silence.
I stood there, frozen to the ground, her heart pounding as Damien and Lillian's mocking voices echoed through the richly decorated lobby of the Alpha King's corporate high-rise building.
"Well, well, well," Lillian jeered, crossing her arms. "Look at who's still clinging to outdated fantasies. I thought you'd be wasting away in some dingy back alley by now, but no, you're still tagging along behind Damien like a pathetic lost puppy."
Damien laughed, icy blue eyes scanning Amelia for nothing but disdain. "You have no shame, do you?" His voice was dripping with distaste. "I discarded you, Amelia. You're nothing. A pathetic, useless, desperate beggar." He snarled, sneering over at Lillian. "I'll bet she's here waiting for me to take her back. As if I'd ever want some scumbag mate who was discarded like trash."
Lillian smiled, stepping forward. "Would you have security remove her? Or maybe she's here to steal from us once more? Once a thief, always a thief."
The room did not wait for me to respond; a low, threatening growl burst across the room. Dominance filled the air, and the scent of raw power hung over everything.
The moment Killian came into view, the atmosphere transformed completely. His golden eyes ignited with pent rage, his dominant, towering form exuding menace.
Damien and Lillian stood frozen in place, recognizing they were among the presence of the world's most powerful Alpha.
Killian barely glanced at them. Instead, he looked at me, and his face grew gentle in a way that took her breath. And then, in front of all these people, he did something that sent the room trembling to its foundation.
He touched her.
Softly, possessively, he drew me against his chest, tipping her chin upward so she could see only him. "Are they troubling you, my love?" His words were low, intimate, and deadly.
My heart began to race. She could feel the heat of his hand, the power of his presence, her protector, her mate.
Lillian gave a strangled gasp. "M-My love?" Damien’s face twisted in disbelief. “Wait. What the hell is going on?” He let out a bitter laugh, but it lacked confidence. “She’s a nobody. A weak, rejected mate. Why would you…..”
Killian’s expression darkened, his aura flaring with an intensity that made Damien stumble back. “Careful,” he warned, his voice sharp like a blade. “You’re speaking about my mate, my Luna.”
The words struck Damien like a blow. He turned white.
Lillian's lips trembled. "T-That's not possible."
Killian smiled, a slow, sinister curl of his lip. "Then I believe you should open your eyes, because you're standing before Amelia, the future Queen of the Crimson Shadow Pack."
There was an electric tension in the air.
I could feel my heart pounding against my chest as I stood beside Killian, his heat grounding me. But when his voice commanded the room, my body coiled.
Damien.
The man who'd rejected me. The man who'd humiliated me. And now, he was standing in front of me with the same smug smile, as if he still held me in t****l.
He didn't. Not anymore.
I braced my back as he took a step forward, his black eyes running over me with something sour hidden behind them.
"Amelia," he said with a smooth tone, but venom crept in. "Are you really happy being a substitute? His 'second chance'?" He snorted a laugh. "You'll always be a stand-in."
My heart tightened, but before I could respond, Killian moved.
Quicker than I had ever seen him move before.
He stepped between us, his massive frame blocking me entirely. His golden eyes fixed on Damien with a ferocity that made the air in the room change.
"Talk to my mate again," Killian's voice was low and menacing, "and I will rip out your tongue."
A shiver ran through me. His very presence sent a wave of mastery through the air, thick and suffocating. Even Lillian, standing proudly at Damien's side, shifted uncomfortably back a step.
But Damien? He didn't blink. No, he was furious.
I could see it in the tightening of his jaw, the fists clenched at his sides.
And then. he smirked.
He gazed straight at me, that same smug expression in his eyes that used to make me feel tiny. "Let's see how long this little fairytale will last," he growled, spinning on his heel.
Lillian paused, looking at me with something expressionless in her eyes before trotting after him.
I took a slow breath, but my hands were still shaking.
