Chapter 2

The bubble tea shop was always bustling with students, laughter, and the sweet aroma of freshly brewed tea. Jasmine loved the energy of the place, especially during peak hours when friends gathered to share stories and enjoy their favorite drinks. However, amidst the familiar faces, there was one customer who stood out to her. In the far corner of the shop sat a tall, Radley. He was known around campus as a talented senior in the same major as Jasmine, but his reputation was that of a loner. Every time he visited the shop, he ordered a single cup of espresso, a stark contrast to the colorful bubble teas that surrounded him. He would sit there for hours, often buried in a book or typing intently on his laptop, seemingly indifferent to the lively chatter around him. Jasmine had heard whispers about him from her classmates. "He’s a genius, but he’s really hard to approach." They said. His cold demeanor and reserved nature made him an enigma, and Jasmine found herself both curious and intimidated by him. One afternoon, as Jasmine was preparing drinks behind the counter, she caught sight of Radley again. He was wearing a simple black hoodie and jeans, his dark hair slightly tousled. There was something intriguing about him, the way he seemed lost in his own world, yet so brilliantly focused. Jasmine felt an inexplicable pull toward him, but she quickly dismissed the thought. She had her own goals to prioritize. After serving a couple of customers, Jasmine noticed Radley looking up from his book. Their eyes briefly met, and she felt her heart skip a beat. She quickly looked away, her cheeks flushing. It was silly, she barely knew him. As the day went on, Jasmine’s thoughts kept drifting back to Radley. She wondered what kind of person he was beneath that aloof exterior. Was he as brilliant as everyone claimed? Did he ever smile? Later that evening, just before closing, Jasmine gathered the courage to approach his table. "Hello, I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what book are you reading?" Jasmine ventured, her voice slightly shaky. Radley looked up, surprise flickering in his deep-set eyes. For a moment, Jasmine felt as if she were frozen in time, waiting for his response. Finally, he replied, his tone cool but not unkind. "It’s a philosophy book. Just something I like to read." "Oh, that sounds interesting," She said, trying to keep the conversation going. "I’ve always found philosophy fascinating, but I’ve never really delved into it." Radley nodded, his gaze returning to the pages. Jasmine felt a wave of disappointment wash over her, but she pressed on. "I’m Jasmine, by the way. I work here." "Radley," He replied simply, his voice barely above a whisper. As she turned to leave, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to him than met the eye. Perhaps with time, she would uncover the layers beneath his cold facade. For now, she had her own journey to focus on, but a flicker of curiosity about Radley had been ignited a curiosity that hinted at the possibility of something deeper in the future.
