Next day, every national newspaper had the same content for the front page headline:
ARE THE TWO ROYAL KIDS GOING TO TIE THE KNOT SOON?
Below that was posted a clear picture of It was taken from a side angle, yet their faces were clearly visible
Although the headline was phrased different for each newspaper, the crux remained the same. They all wanted to know if
Ishanvi was working on her laptop when
"Is there really something going between them? Is that why he told me to not expect anything from him because he already someone in his heart? But then why the hell is he marrying me if he lo… loves someone else?
Questions plagued her mind as soon as Inaayat left.
She realised she couldn't go back to edit the manuscript she was working on. Sighing, she put her laptop away and got on her feet. Taking deep breaths, she tried to calm the erratic beating of her heart but it didn't help. She began strolling in the fresh grass to ease her mind but to no avail.
From the corner of her eyes, Ishanvi saw her parents looking at her from the window in their room, in concern. She knew they wanted to ask her if she's okay but didn't know how to do that. And Ishanvi knew she was far from okay.
But she couldn't let her parents see her like this either. Determinedly, she grabbed her wallet from the coffee table and lied to her parents that she's going to office
She hadn't realised she had been sitting here for so long
"I didn't know you are coming today. Otherwise, I would have come earlier," Ishanvi said, looking at her parents who were staring at her with worry etched on their faces.
"We hadn't planned to come. But situation demanded that we must meet you," Mrs Oberoi said.
Ishanvi looked at her, puzzled. *"What situation is she talking about? Is everything okay?"*
Mrs Oberoi beckoned Ishanvi to sit with her with a nod of her head.
Ishanvi went and sat beside her on the couch.
"Ishanvi I know you are a sensible girl and won't just believe everything you see. But I still feel we need to explain everything to you," Mrs Oberoi began.
"Pardon, ma'am, but I don't really know what you're getting at," Ishanvi voiced her confusion.
"I'm talking about the newspaper headlines," Mrs Oberoi said. "And I'm here to assure you that there's nothing like what the newspapers claim. There's nothing going on between Neer and
Realisation dawned upon her.
*"So, that is why they are here!"* Ishanvi thought to herself.
Ishanvi looked around and noticed it was just Mrs Oberoi and Nurvi. Neer hadn't bothered to come, let alone giving an explanation. She let out a humorless chuckle mentally.
Mrs Oberoi understood what she was thinking.
"Neer had to leave for Germany this morning with his father. Hence, he couldn't come," Mrs Oberoi told her.
"Of course, I understand," Ishanvi lied with a small smile. "And rest assured, I know there is no other girl in Neer's life."
*"Not even me,"* Ishanvi wanted to add but she couldn't.
Mrs Oberoi smiled at her. "Thank you for being so understanding."
"But ma'am you didn't have to come all the way to Delhi for this. You could've told me this over the phone," Ishanvi told her.
"We tried calling you but you weren't answering our calls. So, Mom decided to come to Delhi," Nurvi told her.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I forgot my phone at home," Ishanvi apologised.
"We figured," her mother spoke up this time. "You weren't answering any of our calls. That's when Ivaan found your phone in the garden We couldn't help but worry about you."
"Maa, I told you that I'm going to the office! What were you worrying for then?" Ishanvi frowned.
"But—" her mother began but her father interrupted her.
"It's alright, Irshita. She's back safely and that's all that matters, right?" he asked his wife.
Her mother nodded her head.
"Now that we have clarified everything, we would take our leave," Mrs Oberoi said, getting on her feet.
"You have just arrived and now you're leaving. Why don't you rest for a while before you leave for Chandigarh? I'll cook something for you to eat as well," Mrs Dixit proposed.
Mrs Oberoi "It sounds quite tempting but I'll have to refuse this time, Mrs Dixit. I really have to return before nightfall because one of us has to be at the castle for the general meeting tomorrow. And as Naman has gone to Germany, I'll have to attend the meeting alone. I hope you won't mind."
"Oh of course not. Rest can wait but royal affairs can't. In that case, I won't stop you," Mrs Dixit said.
Mrs Oberoi and Nurvi took their leave and the Dixits circled around Ishanvi.
"Where have you been?" her mother inquired. "And don't you dare lie to us because we know you weren't at the office!"
"You called Anna?"
Her mother nodded her head.
Ishanvi sighed. "Maa, I just needed some time alone to refocus, that's all," she confessed as her shoulders sagged a bit.
"We understand that but you could've at least informed us
"Maa, how could she inform us? She had forgotten her phone at home, remember?" Ivaan c****d his eyebrows.
Ishanvi deadpanned at her mother.
"Alright. Next time, don't disappear without informing us first, okay!" her mother said before ushering her towards her room. "Go, take some rest. You look like you really need it."
Ishanvi muffled a yawn as she nodded her head before going to her bedroom.
Inaayat followed after her.
"I thought you didn't really care about it," Inaayat repeated her words from this morning.
"Not now, Inu. I'm really tired."
"Of course. It's really tiring to think up of all the ideas to kill your rival in love," Inaayat said, sympathetically.
Ishanvi stopped and turned to glare at her younger sister.
Inaayat raised her hands in air in surrender. "I'm leaving. I'm leaving," she said.
Ishanvi turned back and began moving.
"Keep thinking about ways to murder your love rival," Inaayat said before running away from there.
Ishanvi shook her head and entered her bedroom.
How could she tell her sister that there wasn't any love, so the question of having a love rival sounds as ridiculous as elephants wearing pants!
