Ishanvi had wanted a longer courtship period to be more comfortable around her would-be life partner, so there won't be any awkwardness once they got married! A ten-eleven months long courtship period meant quite many chances of secret meetings, late night phone conversations, a few text exchanges throughout the day and a gradual development of feelings —either hatred or love— as well or at least that's what her hopeless romantic heart had thought.
But in these six months —since they got engaged— Neer had barely tried to talk to her, let alone meeting her. Ishanvi didn't try to contact him either. How could she when he had clearly told her to not expect anything from him?
And the worse part was that she had to pretend that they were having a beautiful courtship period just like every other couple in love!
Ishanvi was already getting tired of putting up this facade in front of their families. Call her coward, but she hadn't told anyone about the real deal of their marriage! She couldn't bring herself to break their hearts just like hers was broken on that night six months ago!
Ishanvi was someone who cared about herself as much as she cared about others. She wasn't the type who'd happily sacrifice herself for others' happiness; she was one of those persons who loved themselves as much as they loved their families and people who are close to them. She always stated that she would always priorities her own mental peace along with others and in no way, would put herself and her happiness on a lower pedestal.
Yet here she was! Lying to her family and his for their happiness, to keep their hearts safe from the heartache that'd follow if she told them the truth of her marriage. Her own happiness, desires, wishes had taken secondary importance in her life now. What mattered most was the content smile on her family's face now.
Surrounded with these thoughts, Ishanvi was staring absent-mindedly at her laptop when hed cellphone started ringing.
Breaking the chain of her thoughts, she grabbed her cellphone that was lying beside her laptop on her bed.
For a moment, Ishanvi was puzzled to have received another call from Mrs Oberoi. Mrs Oberoi had called her this morning only to celebrate the six months of their engagement. Everyone else had talked to her except the man she was engaged to! But now was not the time to entertain these thoughts. Pushing these thoughts at the back of her mind, she answered the call.
"Ishanvi *beta*, could you please come to Chandigarh right away?" Mrs Oberoi asked her after exchanging the pleasantries. "We can send our charter plane for you if you don't find any flight for Chandigarh
"What's wrong, ma'am? Is everything okay?" Ishanvi inquired when she heard the urgency in her voice.
"Yes, everything is alright. But there is an important matter that needs your presence here," Mrs Oberoi told her.
*"What important matter requires my presence there?"* Ishanvi wondered.
"Sure, ma'am. I'll be there as soon as possible. As it's already half past seven in the evening, there won't be flight for Chandigarh at the moment. But I'll board the first flight available tomorrow morning," Ishanvi assured her would-be mother-in-law.
"
After hanging up, Mrs Oberoi turned towards her family who all were seated in the meeting room of the palace.
"She will be here tomorrow morning," Mrs Oberoi informed her family.
"It's alright. We all need time to process this information anyway," Mr Oberoi said, his gaze fixed on Parthiv who was seated across from him with his head hung low.
The Royal family members had gathered in the meeting room to discuss an urgent matter that demanded their attention.
They sat around the large oval table as disappointment filled their hearts. And the cause of this disappointment was no one else but the younger Prince of the family— Parthiv.
FLASHBACK
The Royal castle was buzzing with the daily activities of the palace —meetings with the subordinates, relief programmes for the people affected with severe drought in one of the regions of Punjab, household chores etcetera— when suddenly everything paused dramatically as the younger Prince walked in with a woman beside her.
If it had been just a regular visit, nobody would've reacted the way they did. But nothing about this appearance was normal or usual. The younger Prince had worn a floral garland and so did the lady he was holding hands with. While the Prince looked
The news travelled to the inner chambers of the palace in hushed voices and soon all the members of the Royal family were standing at the threshold of the Royal palace in front of the couple. They all looked shocked and slightly shaken to witness the scene in front of them.
"We got married in court today," Parthiv finally broke the news to his family.
"We could see that," his mother, Mrs Pavitra Oberoi, said contemptuously.
"Pavitra!" Mrs Neela stopped her right in time before she could slap her son. "What are you doing? He isn't a kid anymore. He knows what's good for him and what's not!"
"But *Jiji* if he really is a grown up man and understands what's right for him, he wouldn't have done such a shameless thing," Pavitra sneered at her son.
"Getting married to the person you love is nothing to be ashamed of," Parthiv retorted.
"But getting married behind everyone's back is not only unfair to your family who trusted you but also an insult to the girl who loved you," Neer spoke up.
"Don't blame him, bhaiya, it's not his fault. It was my idea to get married in court," came a small voice.
"If you have to blame anyone, blame me,"
"Why are you taking all the blame? Although it was your idea but I also agreed to do this
"She's a player," Riddhima muttered to Nurvi
