I could barely control my anger as I stormed back into the house. I couldn't believe my father would risk exposing our secret like that. What was he thinking? Didn't he see how clueless she was concerning our kind?
I slammed the door behind me, the sound echoing through the hallway. The silent house, a stark contrast to the violence simmering just below the surface.
"Why did you do that?" I should, my voice bouncing off the walls.
His calm response only aggravated me more. "You'll do well to remember who's alpha here, son."
I growled, baring my teeth. But my father didn't flinch. Instead, he rose from the sofa, his eyes blazing with a fierce intensity.
I felt my wolf immediately submit to the. My father's dominance was overwhelming, and I knew better than to challenge him.
We locked eyes, the tension crackling between us.
"Ever since you've met that girl, you've not been yourself," my father said, his voice firm but laced with concern. "I don't know what kind of effect she's having on you, but I don't approve of it."
"I'm not going to let you ruin your chances as the future leader of this pack just because of some human girl," he spat viciously. "You have a responsibility to our pack. Don't throw it away for a girl."
I felt my anger and frustration boil over, but I tried to keep my cool, knowing that losing my temper would only make things worse. Clenching my fists, I turned and walked away.
The wait was almost over. My 18th birthday was coming, and with it, my wolf.
I trained harder than ever, pushing my body to the limit. My dad and I still weren't speaking, but I didn't have time to worry about that. I had to be ready.
As the big day approached, I could feel the wolf inside me getting stronger. My senses heightened, and my emotions were all over the place. I could hear from miles away if I focused hard enough, and I knew that it would only improve with the presence of my wolf.
Finally, the day I'd been waiting for my entire life arrived – my 18th birthday, the night I get my wolf.
I stood in a small clearing, deep within the woods, where my father had brought me countless times to prepare for this moment. Moonlight filtered through the trees, casting shadows on the forest floor.
My family and pack stood by, ready to intervene if necessary. But I had to face this alone. Today, I become one with my wolf.
I took a deep breath, feeling adrenaline and fear course through my veins. My heart pounded as pain exploded through me, like my bones were shattering and my muscles were on fire.
I closed my eyes, embracing the change. My bones cracked and reformed, my skin itching as fur sprouted from my pores. My body began to shift, senses heightening, muscles stretching.
As the pain subsided, I slowly opened my eyes to find myself on all fours. My hands were now paws, covered in soft, black fur. I turned them over, marvelling at the sharp claws that tipped each digit. My vision was sharper, the colours more vivid. Different scents slammed into me at once, overwhelming my senses.
I had gotten my wolf.
As I settled into my new form, I felt my wolf take over. He controlled my movements and all I could do was watch. I could sense his emotions as if they were mine. It was a strange feeling. I could feel his excitement at finally being free from his prison, and in celebration, he let out a triumphant howl and then took off running.
Confused, I let him lead as we dashed through the trees, our paws pounding the earth. I couldn't make sense of what was happening. He seemed determined to get somewhere and by the time I realised what he wanted, it was too late. He'd blocked me from taking over. I mentally screamed at him to stop, but he barely acknowledged me, focused on his goal. Josette. He wanted to get to her, and nothing else mattered. I tried to reason with him, but he ignored me.
I heard my dad mindlink me to get him under control as he chased after us. He has transformed and tried to exert his alpha dominance, but my wolf refused to yield.
Panic set in as we ran toward the city. I knew it would be a disaster if we didn't stop. With one final, desperate bid, I commanded my wolf to stop, but he refused, intent on getting to her. What he wanted with her, I didn't know, but what I did know was that I wouldn't be able to stop him.
Just as we were about to break through the trees, a wolf launched itself at us from behind. Another wolf appeared, and together, they pinned my wolf down. More wolves emerged, and we were dragged back to the pack.
